Curly hair dilemma

I have curly hair, they are not tight curls (I included a recent photo to see what the curls look like).
So it’s a curly hair rule to NOT brush your hair with a hair brush (it frizzes out your curls), so I comb my hair in the shower as it’s the only way to deal with it. I have ALOT of knots in my hair, and recently they have been becoming worse! Recently I can never fully comb my hair to be knot-free anymore, and I’m really struggling with it becoming knotty and messy within a few hours after showering. When I wash my hair, I shampoo it once a week, and every single time I wash my hair I use conditioner.
Recently I’ve started tying my hair in a pony tail or bun before I go to sleep which I thought would help with the knot problem, but when I take my hair out it becomes very kinky and knotty even then.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Products to use, ways to avoid having to wash my hair every single day with conditioner (or is this necessary?). THANKYOU!

I only wash my hair twice a week but I always use a leave in conditioner straight after washing. I find my hair gets a little bit knotty but not too bad.

My hair just goes to a big Afro now. When it is wet the curls are beautiful! I love them! But 20 minutes later it’s a mess and falling out!!!

I also have thick, long curly hair that is prone to knots & also being frizzy! I have found success in putting coconut oil in my hair over night, olive oil works too .Also using a solid shampoo & conditioner with an apple cider vinegar rinse has been very good for my hair.
A Tasmanian company called Beauty & the Bees has an excellent solid shampoo bar & a conditioner bar as well

Have you heard of the curly girl method? I plan on doing something similar for wavy hair but trying to use up my old (SLS containing) shampoo first.

My hair has a similar curl to yours. Here’s what I do, shampoo and condition once or twice a week. In the shower after washing I put Moroccan oil intense curl cream BEFORE towel drying my hair, so while it’s dripping wet. Then instead or a towel an old t-shirt to dry my hair then let it air dry. I started doing this after watching a you tuber who vlogs about curly hair and it’s made such a difference, no bad hair days. If it’s not a shampoo day I’ll just dry my hair with the tshirt, no need to reapply product, day 3 I might add a little more Moroccan oil depending on how dirty my hair feels.

I always shower in the morning so I can wet my hair for the day, never sleep on wet hair.
