Chemical Hair Straightening

Hello beauties,
Just wanted to find out your opinion or your experiences in chemical hair straightening. I saw an ad at our local TAFE offering this service as a model for a student at a cheap price and was intrigued but want to read opinions of you trusted members before I commit.
Do you know how much it costs roughly?
what is the process involved?
How long it lasts?

I did Japanese permanent hair straightening before too though it was many years ago. The effect was great.

As many others have mentioned, the regrowth is a problem and can look odd. However, depending on how wavy your hair is, it can be much easier and time efficient to use a hair straightener on the regrowth than all over.

I have had the Japanese permanent hair straightening done in the past, and although the first time I had it done my hair looked and felt shiny and great and it was straight for about a year before I got wavy regrowth. The second and third time I had the straightening done it completely damaged my hair and scalp, to the point that my hair was falling out more than usual! The whole process does take a good 3 hours or so, especially if you have long hair. I paid around $450 the first time and it’s less if you just to your roots/regrowth after that. But I would be careful where you go, as some salons leave the straightening solution on your hair for too long and this causes serious damage!!

Dear MoonlightSak16, as a person who has had to manage my frizzy curly hair for so many many years I know how you feel,m but please be very very careful as I have had this done myself and it ended up looking terrible…it was quite a while ago and things might have changed in the time being but as I can only stress, do your homework and ask if they have someone who has already had it done that you can see and speak to.
I had to wait for mine to grow out as once done that is it. Best of luck

Google Japanese thermal straightening and you should get a good idea. In general chemical straightening works best on virgin hair as it’s high heat (damaging if your hair is already compromised) and if it’s dyed dark then it can make your hair pull orange tones.

I was going to get it done when I was in Asia but I didn’t think my hair would tolerate it. The regrowth is hard to touch up and looks odd. Also regrowth is charged at same price as full head as it’s more difficult to do regrowth.

The Japanese method is supposed to be the best (I researched pretty heavily when I was considering it). There are others like Brazilian which is different again. What type did they offer?

Thank you for the information. I have been googling too and yes if your hair has been bleached or henna then it is not recommended.

I`m not sure what type they r offering I`ll give them a call tomorrow and ask. The ad also said that they will do a stand test first.

Oh the regrowth would be hard to manage and maintained.
