Annoyingly Oily Hair!

I have combination skin however extremely oily hair!
I try not to wash it everyday and sometimes every 3rd day (baby powder is my life) but why is my hair SO oily and SO limp?!
I tend to throw it up into a bun everyday because even after just 1 day of not washing my hair, it feels so greasy and looks shiny.

I’ve read about the coconut oil treatment but is there anything else I can do that will help me?

Seems your roots are over stimulated and producing lots of oil!
I think you should try Selsun it says its for anti dandruff but i use it to dry out my oily scalp and when i use conditioner only on the tips not the roots. When rinsing with as cold as you can get it water.

Selsun Gold is specially formulated with Selenium Sulfide 2.5%, proven to not only remove dandruff, but also to slow down the rate our skin produces new skin cells; which is the basic cause of flakes and itchiness.

I have the same problem. I switched to Sukin purifying shampoo and it has helped me.

How long since you’ve been washing your hair daily? Your scalp tends to take time to adjust and realise that it doesn’t need to be producing so much oil. Over-cleansing the hair strips your scalp so your body feels the need to over compensate and produce more oil. Try waiting it out if it hasn’t been too long and you could just be in the adjustment period, use a dry shampoo on days you feel oily. I’d recommend using a dark dry shampoo so it doesn’t make your hair look ashy. Otherwise you could try dry shampoo the night before and let it sit in your hair overnight, then brushing it out in the morning.

      Thanks for your comment!
I used to wash it daily however in the past 2-3 years I`ve really been trying to wash it every 2 or 3 days. However my scalp gets itchy and feels so unclean and gross!
I live for dry shampoo and baby powder – it`s basically what`s kept me from washing my hair but is there a way to just eliminate the production of so much oil!

Look for a different shampoo/conditioner combo that is suited to oily hair. I double shampoo focusing on the roots of my hair and . I only ever condition the ends. Don’t over use leave in conditioners or the likes.

Also dry shampoo is your best buddy. I like either the Batiste or the Klorane Nettle versions. A tip is to spray dry shampoo in your hair the night you wash it, so in effect you are spraying it into clean hair before it gets oily. I find this helps keep the oil at bay.

Oh I will definitely try the dry shampoo when my hair has just been washed – this is a new technique!
Thanks so much for sharing your tips with me 🙂

I swear by TRESemmé Deep Cleansing shampoo! Any clear shampoo cleans grease better than a white shampoo. I completely agree with Roxybabe about the conditioner, I do this too.

For alternate days, Klorane Dry Shampoo WITH NETTLE is the best for oiliness. I imagine baby powder would make your hair look a lot lighter.

Both products are bh listed, TRESemmé: https://www.beautyheaven.com.au/hair/shampoo/6707-tresemm-deep-cleansing-shampoo

I LOVE TRESemme Botanique Range so I`ve been using that! But I`ll definitely try the Klorane Dry Shampoo! Thanks so much for the suggestions 😀

Maybe just use the conditioner on your ends? I always avoid using conditioner on my roots because it always makes my hair too oily..
