I would like to know what products/ oils/ creams are best for preventing strech marks during a pregnancy.

Zeynep is a very Turkish name, reminds me of my 2 years living in Istanbul 🙂

I didn’t realise they were genetic but I know that stretch mark creams don’t work to stop it from happening.
One of my partner’s family members has a good way of looking at getting stretch marks; she told me that if you get stretch marks not to worry about their appearance but rather love them, think of it as like a ‘map’, they are where your child was, a special connection to them that only you have.
Lol maybe it’s just me but I like the way that she put it =)

You can’t prevent stretch marks they happen deep in the skin layers that products can’t reach. It is a genetic thing, you are prone or you are not. Creams might make your skin more comfortable when it’s dry and itchy but it won’t prevent anything. Keeping your weight in a healthy range can help but again no guarantee. Enjoy your pregnancy for the miracle it is and if you earn some tiger stripes then see it as a badge of how great your body is to create and carry such a precious cargo.

There is a stretch mark cream by StriVectin and it’s amazing, but expensive, but it has faded mine down. I have seen that dermal needling does a pretty good job on stretch marks too…after the baby of course.

Thanks. I didn`t know that dermal needling could be used the get rid of stretch marks.

I wouldn’t recommend bio-oil as it contains mineral oil – and that’s just me being wary certain things. You can try palmer’s coco butter – it’s great, smells amazing and feels quite soothing but no guarantee that it will really prevent stretch marks – can lessen the damage though. I applied palmer’s twice a day (and sometimes more) from the very beginning but as 2663anne mentioned, must be genetics. Was happy till 32nd week and then suddenly the marks showed up. They are quite faded now and I don’t care anymore – i wear my battle scars proudly 😉

Its just the thought of changes to my body is frightening. Thanks for your comment!

You are going to have so many changes to your body that you simply can’t control, so just try to embrace them. I’m covered in stretch marks, Brown pigmentation spots on my hands, and my boobs are now leg warmers! It will be hard after you have the baby because you won’t ‘know’ your body but just remember –

        I made a human and that’s incredible!

Yes! It really is incredible what our bodies can do.

Oh you kill me Anne! Legwarmers hahaha!! 😀

So true. I used to be skinny girl and now I just can`t get back to my before-baby size…but that`s oky. I`ll keep trying and meaning while sloppy kisses are working their magic 😉

Heads up – it will change in many more ways than just stretch marks but don`t worry it will be all worth it and more. No one loves as unconditionally as your baby. So enjoy that and don`t stress about the rest – a lot of things you can do later to reverse the changes. :*

Right now it seems daunting, but like you said it can always be fixed later.

    Hi!

I used Bio-Oil and it got rid of my stretch marks on my belly.

Thanks for your reply. There are a lot of products to take into consideration.

I used Palmers coco butter stretch mark lotion from 3 months pregnant, twice a day, didn’t get any stretch marks at all on my tummy. I do think it worked, and the reason for this is I didn’t ever put the cream on my hips or thighs, and these areas also expanded during pregnancy, and I DID get stretch marks there! Particularly my upper inner thighs. Wow they are bad. I won’t wear shorts now. So I’m thinking because I am clearly susceptible to stretch marks and did get them in areas I did not apply the cream, I assume I would have got them on my tummy also. So I think the Palmers cream worked in preventing stretch marks on my tummy.

Thank you for your comment. It`s really interesting to see how different everyone`s pregnancy journey is.

Honestly I don’t think anything works it’s all down to genetics. I used Bio Oil from the second I found out I was pregnant multiple times a day and I’m covered in stretch marks, covered! I also used Palmers Stretch Mark Cream, also didn’t work.

    Good luck and congratulations!

Yes I do believe genetics have a lot to do with it. Thanks for your comment!

Everyone raves about Bio-oil, but I haven’t personally used it for that purpose. I’ve also read rave reviews online about a brand called Meiskin’s stretch mark treatment oil. I’ve used other products from the Meiskin range and loved them.
