How do you put on weight

There is so much help out there to lose weight but none for those of us who would like to put on weight. How do you increase your calorie intake without eating junk food?

I have the same issue, I do also have a chronic disease now as well which also makes it difficult to gain weight. I’m in the healthy weight range but people always comment on how tiny I am. I’m going to a dietician soon as my diet needs to change so I’m hoping they may have some suggestions to increase my weight slightly. I have powdered sustagen every day in lactose free milk. Sustagen contains lots of vitamins and minerals and is high in protein.

I am having the same struggle at the moment, I have recently been sick and have lost a lot of weight and am looking to put some of it back on. I have found that breaking my meals up and increasing their size has been good, for example having 5-6 meals per day instead of 3. I am also trying to get lots of protein and good fats from fish and avocado.

Kitten, why is it that you want to put weight on? Have you always been very slim, or have you been experiencing some health problems? x

Agree that increasing your protein intake will help enormously. One good way is having protein shakes as snacks – you can get to protein products in various flavours from health stores, Priceline and supermarkets and make a shake by adding milk or yoghurt.

I watch this show on foxtel called supersized vs super skinny and they get 2 people at the opposite extremes and try and help them to get healthier (ie lose weight for the obese and put it on for the extremely underweight)

One of the main tips they give the under weight is to eat more regularly. So have your 3 meals a day but make sure you have snacks every couple of hours in between – good snacks are nuts, yoghurt, fruit, crackers with cheese or hommos. Thats sort of thing. As mentioned previously protein is excellent for putting on weight as it will put on lean muscle.

I agree with RockieH. Protein helps a lot… switching to or adding extra eggs, smoothies, yoghurt, light meats, fish to your diet. Also doing a muscle bearing or toning exercise to make the most of all that protein. I’m loving pilates. It has given my chicken legs some shape finally.

I’m one of those annoying people that eat a lot and never gain weight. But, when I had to gain some weight, I found eating lot’s of protein and carbs helped
