Beauty DIYs

I have recently become obsessed with Pintrest and making my own beauty products where possible (the joys of the broke student lifestyle!).

I’ve made my own bath bombs and a lip scrub in an attempt to copy Lush. Obviously not as good as the real thing but both have turned out pretty well.

I’d love to hear about your DIY beauty successes (or fails)!

I love making face masks (for myself) using ingredients from the kitchen, they work well and I can choose to put in the ingredients that I am not allergic to.

The only way to physically change the clothes of your skin is online shopping. This is a place where you can try on things and then order it.

    The oils sound amazing mandy_1987

Im currently obsessed with natural soaps atm and did a soap making class last week which I loved. Got to take a milk cartoon home which will make about five bars of soap. Love the simplicity of the ingredients and being a soap there’s no wastage with plastics and doesn’t have an ingredient list a mile long! Can’t wait to open my soap in a few weeks!!

Is making soap difficult? Every tutorial I`ve seen so far looks really complicated but it would be so cool to have handmade soap!

I make a few of my own things lately (I have a toddler running about who has a keen fascination with my bathroom products)
I did many hours of research of what was in natural products and effective imgredients.
I made a scrub with rice flour, sandalwood powder and some licorice. It doesn’t smell fantastic lol but it works so well!

I’ve also made a serum with some hemp seed oil, hazelnut oil, carrot seed and frankincense. My skin feels so soft!
I also make epsom salt and himalayan salt bath mixes with essential oils. So relaxing!

I have supplies for my next idea-a coconut scrub with coconut oil, coffee, olive oil and might add some essential oils.

Its all good fun and you know exactly what you are using on your skin. Really works wonders too!
The only issue is once mixed the oils need to be used fairly quick as I dont have vitamin e to make it longer lasting.

huh, I have citric acid, didn’t think about the coconut oil @Sandyfeet on hindsight it would have been great for little baby’s skin.

it was fun though watching the kids go nuts in the bath. (with joy okay?)

They look like soaps very cute. What a shame there is no simple recipe to make soap like making a cake batter . Most of them need the Lye ingredient which is too caustic to play around with .

I was really keen to make my own soaps until I realised that you needed lye and the process also seems pretty complicated. I know some people who make their own so I guess I`ll have to buy it off them instead haha

I did a soap course using lye this week. Prior to the course I was pretty nervous at prospect of handling lye but with the safety precautions it put me to ease. Best to make in s well ventilated room even outside if you can wear glasses, protective eye wear and protect your feet. Have vinegar handy should an accident occur as it neutralises lye acid. Still nervous to attempt at home but keen on getting started whilst thecourse still fresh in my mind 🙂

Those look amazing! Where did you find the cocoa butter?

  • 6 yrs, 7 mths ago

I’ve made bath melts with dried lavendar and cocoa butter + sweet almond oil. I’ve also made scrubby moisturising bars for my legs and arms with ground rice (blitzed it up in my coffee grinder), cocoa butter, and camellia oil.
