Give back & share the dignity

Hi girls,

I hope you all enjoy your beautorium booty. In the spirit of karma, I encourage you all to take part in the Share the Dignity campaign to support women who are less fortunate than yourselves. Domestic violence is one of the biggest causes of homelessness, and it can happen to any woman regardless of their background. Imagine finding yourself homeless and getting your period, but not being able to afford sanitary products to deal with it.

I was touched by this personally when I met a homeless lady begging on the train a few years ago. As she passed by I noticed that she had a telltale browny-red stain on her pants. I didn’t have any money, but I did pass on the half a box of tampons I had in my bag. She was so grateful and thanked me profusely.

Sadly, this is a situation that faces more women than it should, but I’m pleased that there is now a charity campaign dedicated to this issue.

We can all help our sisters in need. Sanitary items should be a right, not a privilege!

    FYI…

66281 #itsinthebag donations have been picked up from collection points in 2016.
Our hearts are full it has been a remarkable tsunami of kindness throughout Australia and we will all wake up on Christmas morning 2016 knowing that we have done our utmost to ensure every woman in need this year has a big warm hug in the form of a handbag filled with goodies.
We have been so so so busy picking up these bags that we are just not able to keep up with the PM’s asking us if collection sites are still open but as of today please please do not drop anymore bags to the collection points our volunteers need to spend the next two weeks getting these bags out to the refuges, shelters and all areas that need our help and we just have to draw a line in the sand. You can however post them to our post office PO Box 345, Sandgate Qld 4017 we are still counting and sorting bags and we know we will reach 70,000 bags of kindness.

Thank you to each and every one of you!

I just stumbled across this thread and I think it is a wonderful thing to be able to do. I have heard about this idea but I wasn’t sure where to donate. Thanks to your help I am all over it now 🙂

    (Source: http://www.sharethedignity.com.au/itsinthebag.html)

The “It’s in the Bag” Christmas campaign idea came to us when we realised that we seem to manage the needs of children at Christmas, ensuring they’re cared for and made to feel special, but the same can’t always be said for those women who put the needs of others before their own. We wanted to make them feel special.

And so the campaign began – we asked Australians to donate a handbag they no longer used, fill it with items that would make a woman feel special and even pop a thoughtful note into the bag to show her that someone cares and that she matters.

What you put in your gift will depend on your bag size, your budget and your imagination. Here are some ideas…
    Pads, tampons,
    Baby wipes, cleansing wipes, tissues
    Deodorants, Perfume
    Soap
Shampoo and conditioner, shampoo in a can
    Toothpaste and toothbrush
    Hair ties and hair brush
    Sunscreen
Movie voucher, gift voucher, meal voucher
    Poncho
    Scarf
    Jewellery or trinket
    Lotions, creams, smelly stuff
    Card or note
    Book
    Socks and Undies

As you can see, what you can put in YOUR kind donation is so individual, so very much appreciated and can make a woman feel very special.

MerryGoRound, thanks for posting the information about SHARE THE DIGNITY. I wanted to share the information a while ago, but I’ve been too unwell to chat in the forums. I am in the middle of organising my beauty products for this wonderful cause.

Yes, a wonderful thought and every year Xmas is not so lucky for some people . I’m a volunteer at our local parish and we put together a filled shoebox to Vinnies for children in need every Xmas . A great thing you did on the train too 🙂

Great Share! – it is something that you wouldn’t think about and that we take for granted having access too.

That was so kind of you. Definitely has inspired me to do the same if I find myself in a similar situation. Can’t imagine how thankful she must have been. Will check out the website. I love this thread! 🙂 xx
