Toilet Training – HELP

I would love some ideas on toilet training my son. He has just turned 3. We started about 4 months ago (decided to leave it until son number 2 came along) – went OK, he did wees on the toilet a few times (lots of accidents in between) and was very happy wearing his undies around the house. He then went to refusing to use the toilet, when he needed to go demanding his nappy on but still happily wearing undies – now he won’t even put his undies on. Totally doesn’t want to know about it. I have tried rewards, sticket chart, etc. I know he knows when he needs to go.

Anyone have any ideas?

that`s a good sign elaine, a dry pull up after an outing. it takes time for them to get it. I have been really lucky with my boy. he went from not really getting it to BOOM i`ve got it now.
he does the odd dribble when he`s too preoccupied but i keep on him about needing to go so there`s been no real accidents.
it`s hard to remember sometimes that they are still so little and have so much to learn. he`ll get there. he sounds like he`s doing a pretty good job 🙂

oh on the toilet at night, yes my bub uses it as an excuse too it gives me the shi*s, but we get there eventually.

Ya Calum calls at night when he first goes to bed, i think its more of a way of getting out of going to sleep but as you say, i dont want to confuse him by saying no use your nappy.
Today we went to the shops and when we came back his pull up was dry, so heres hoping the progress will start!!
Likewise P75 he drinks like a fish, and he sweats so much i cannot take his precious water bottle off him.

well defining normal is pretty hard because the scope is sooooooooo wide. it sounds pretty common though.

My little man is going great guns at the moment but it`s agonizing. here`s why. he is waking up in the night calling out to do a wee. I get up and take him of course – i don`t want to encourage him to wee in his nappy but we are sooooooooooooooooo tired doing this 2 – 3 times a night. i love my sleep so i`m struggling big style.
he`s waking in the day too with a dry nappy which is great but he`s not sleeping as long as once he wakes in the day he`s up and that`s it so he`s pretty over tired. it`s so hot and humid here in bris now too that i can`t really limit his fluid intake yet.

Ok well we still at the same stage basically, hhe is good wen at home or at school but as soon as we go outside the door he wees. Is this the normal progression?

    Thanks girls.
He is now still running to the toilet (hes to much of a big boy to use the potty now lol) wen hes nude and when offered a treat will pull off his undies and use the toilet but as soon as he gets distracted he will have an accident…which makes me question wether he is ready or not?
Also if we go out i put a pull up on him and he just treats it like a nappy and wees.
I guess i just need to keep on with it and keep asking every 2mins lol

Elaine, my little man is 2.5 now and been pretty well toilet trained for about 3 months, as in, he doesn`t wear a nappy in the day, only for his sleep and at night.
I did a similar thing, in letting him run nude and he`d run to the toilet, we made a bit of a game out of it. when i put undies on he was fine too but as soon as shorts went on he`d wee (for about the first 2 weeks), i just persevered and asked him every 2 seconds, do you need a wee? eventually he was like…..hey, yeah, i do need a wee and we`d run to the toilet laughing yelling big boy wee.
Try to persevere, consistency is the key. he`ll get it but try not to get upset if he regresses every so often, that`s normal, just encourage him when he does it and he`ll eventually learn to really enjoy the adulation rather than wet pants.
    goodluck.

My boy is still not full on yet elaine, I just let him go when he ask, normally I find he takes his own nappy or jocks off and goes to the potty himself, but sometimes he still goes in his nappy or jocks, I guess he will work it out eventually, I just really leave him to it because I don`t want him to take a step backwards and start relying on me again. We just have to put up with a few accidents along the way I think 🙂 My daughter has not even shown any interest in going to the potty at all yet, but she has sat on it a couple of times but never done anything, once again I will just wait until she is ready. I am sure Callum will sort it out, he is still young so there is plenty of time 🙂

ok so I am looking for a bit of advice with my son.

About 2wks ago he decided he wanted to do his wee wees in the potty so i took off his nappy and he went on the potty. He then done really well all that day while naked but as soon as i put undies or pull ups on him he had an accident but we didnt make a big deal out of it. But he was doing really well last week with only one or two accidents.
Then we went away for the wk end and i tink he was too busy to take notice so he had lots of accidents! And now he doesnt even tell me if he needs to go unless he is naked frm waist down and he will just go.

My question is do I stop and try again the next time he shows an interest or do I continue to encourage him now? Hes only 2 and a bit so hes still quiet young
