Suggestions for a baby shower gift

A work colleague is expecting her first baby soon, a little boy. Some of us from work are having a shower for her in a few weeks. Any suggestions as to what to buy, I don’t have children myself so am not very good at these sort of things!!

You can never have too many bibs.

Being a new mum to twins, I found a medical basket was great, things like bonjela, Panadol, nappy rash cream.
Also, a lot a gifts are for now. Think a few months ahead, teething rings, food processors, the baby bullet is great if they are wanting to prepare their own food.
Nappy bin is a must! Keeps the odors at bay.
Maybe even a personalised gift. A photo shoot session to capture the moments or hand casting.

I recommend every day products you constantly run out of. you can never have enough of nappy’s any sizes they will grow, bulk wet wipes, good nappy rash cream, singlets/socks ect

if its someone you know really well once bubs is born, offer to come around and make the mum a cuppa or even just bring food, something simple like can go along way for new mum. She will thank you and be so appreciative of this. Its the simple things sometimes

I wouldn’t get any Johnson products I find they tend to dry out babies skin, it did with mine and many others that I know. One thing I did receive and I overlooked myself which was good I know its odd but a nail clipper set!!! And then something nice for mum 🙂 or for when baby gets older a cute outfit.

So many people buy little baby things that are gorgeous but they grow out of quickly and don’t get a chance to wear so I myself would prefer something for when they are over 6 months personally.

Thinking outside the box, because my youngest is 2 (the third and last child!). Still fresh in my mind what I used and loved:-

A bottle and food pouch warming contraption. You add water, plug it in, and it warms a bottle or pouch of food up. It turns itself off too when the water reaches a certain temperature. LOVED that thing.

Cloth nappies to use as chuck clothes. My babies were so pukey it wasn’t funny.

An adjustable bath seat. I had a baby bath, but they take up space, and they’re such a pain to have to fill and refill. I either had a shower with my bub (still do), or would put her in this awesome adjustable bath holder. She could half sit up/lie down in it, but couldn’t go anywhere. She could kick her legs in it, and absolutely loved it. They can go in that until they learn how to sit up.

A huge box of baby wipes. Red Nose Wipes also donate a certain percentage to Sids and Kids. I bought myself a 12 month supply of baby wipes before I was even pregnant, and I definitely thanked myself afterwards 😉

A great nappy changing all in one purse. The ones where you can fit a couple of nappies, a small pack of wipes and perhaps some cream and powder, and it rolls up. When you need it, unroll it, get out what you need, and it doubles as a change mat. I absolutely loved mine, until my handbag got stolen out of my home, and it was burned, along with the contents of my handbag – mostly baby items (the scumbag!!).

What I didn’t find helpful was all the bottles of shampoo and bath products. I didn’t use any bubble bath or lotion or shampoo on my little ones because it caused skin irritation and cradle cap. I eventually had to throw them all away sadly, although I appreciated the sentiment.

I thought a nappy disposal bin was helpful, but I found the cartridges were really expensive, and I kept forgetting/didn’t have a free moment to empty the bin. I probably used it for 8 weeks. Was just easy to wrap up the nappy in a nappy bag, and put it in the normal bin as I went.

Gift vouchers are awesome too. Especially for online shopping. You can shop at a midnight feed (or a 2am, or a 4am, or a 6am) 🙂

Something I found really helpful when I had my twins was one of the girls from work organised for a box of nappies to be delivered once a week. It was five years ago but it lasted about 6 months and the convenience of it was brilliant! I’ve since left that job but it was a great group present. They also gave me a hamper of pretty much all the stuff listed above, and wrapped it up in 2 extra washing baskets. I remember thinking ‘I already have 3 of these’, but those 2 extra baskets were put to good use!

Pretty much what everyone else has said but I’ll say the “love to dream” swaddles are the BEST! On top of that I’d say nappy disposal bin with a few cartridges, and some pre cooked meals.
If you are close to her the other thing I can’t stress enough is support. There will be days that she just can’t deal, baby will be screaming relentlessly husband will be at work and she won’t want to ask for help. There will probably be times that she will want to hurt the baby (sounds horrible I know but every single mother I know has also felt this) just let her know that when she hits that point you will be there to look after the baby while she takes an hour to get her shit together.

Best presents I received were things like nappies, bulk wet wipes, a voucher for myself and GAIA bath products for bubs. I also loved that some of the girls gave me “vouchers” for doing things like washing, cleaning and providing meals. It sounds really basic, but there’s only so many bunny rugs and clothes you need

I’ve recently just had a baby and the best gifts I received as baby shower presents were things like towels and face washers for baby (can’t have enough of those!!) and a box full of items that are needed like crazy but you forget about or need in the middle of the night and can’t get them at shops due to nothing being open! Things like maternity pads, breast pads, nipple balm, baby panadol and nurofen, infacol drops, baby nail clippers, thermometer, cotton buds, lavendaer baby massage oil and bath wash. I also got a few goodies for myself thrown in there like hair treatments, face masks, lipgloss and hand cream etc.. all these things have come in handy and I loved having products that I could treat myself with now bubs is a few months old!
