Sls

Saw a thing about sls’s (sodium laurel sulphates) and how they are really bad for skin. Does any one have sls free recommendations

Sorry it was a fairly useless start to thread. I initial was looking fir something for bub. I found dr bronner which I like for me but is a bit harsh for him. Now I’ve been using that I dont like using my shampoo or any of our other soaps! My skin seems to be much happier (I’ve been usong same product in the washing machine so clothes are softer too)

    Thanks everyone for your recommendations

i’m not big on lather so SLS free is okay as long as they are good for environment and skin.

skincare junkie you’re welcome. of course you speak from your experience 🙂 but i am excited to share with you that SLS free products can behave just like the SLS variety. Haven’t seen them on the shelves in Aust though. I am so excited about that as i have just cleared all my SLS products (except Cetaphil and finally using non SLS. Been a long purge to empty the products. Except this Pantene Trial i am using has SLS too..

Harmony Queen that is what i used to think. which is kindda true but these products i am using really surprises me. i should do a swatch and take photos of the suds so you guys can see and believe. NO SLS can foam and get sudsy too.

oh yah the iHerb sale ends tonight like 3am (tomorrow morn) i got some things in my cart, better go get it now.

the excitement is like finding out the natural products perform better than synthetic and it’s good for me. Or like milk chocolate doesn’t make you fat. lol

So I started this thread then forgot the site name!! Thankfully I got an email from them. Thanks for all the awesome recommendations. I found dr bronner which is quite good bit fairly harsh so I`ve been using it for shower gel but wanted something gentle for my face and for bubba

Preciousia , unless the foaming is from something else .. mm

I worked out the ones that are soap-free are ususally no SLS and they are much gentler for the skin . If you want lather esp if you are used to the foam then you have to have some SLS to lather. Baby shampoo/bath is a great example as even they contain SLS because kids love lather and it is fun to play with . My kids used to love playing with the bubbles , yet technically it is not good for the skin is it . So in my opinion anything that has no sls probably won’t sud and that is found in a lot of soapfree products and organics. Best to read the back of ingredients and just buy a small bottle to try first in my opinion .

    skincare junkie

i disagree that non SLS shampoos do not lather well.
Certainly have experienced low suds with SLS shampoos and non SLS shampoos. Ayumi shampoo was quite horrid in the lathering department. i ended using lots and lots of shampoo. They did disclaim on their website it is low suds.

Having tried 2 shampoos from iHerb and 1 bodywash from iHerb. All SLS free. I am pleased to report that not only do they lather well in the absence of ALS or SLS SLES but they do a good job cleaning plus at a good price. Sometimes i have to give it to America for better cosmetics chemistry formulations.

The products i used SLS free and have good lathering are

    a) clarifying shampoo. Review here http://loveneedwant.wix.com/blog#!Clarifying-Shampoo-Review/cmbz/57567b980cf23167914bd91d

    b) volumising shampoo bought from this haul http://loveneedwant.wix.com/blog#!iHerb-7/cmbz/575672ce0cf2a5fcbcca307b

    c) body wash (good for back acne) from this haul

they work just as well sudsy, foamy as the SLS variety. and i don’t waste so much shampoo because i have to use 3x the quantity just to get a even spread of the product.

preciousia thanks for the list. I am just speaking from my experience so far. More than happy to try them out after my Pantene trial

They are commonly found in shampoos and cleansers as a lathering agent.

Unfortunately i like lots of foams for shampoos and cleansers, so I found SLS free shampoos and body washes e.g. Sukin often not lathering enough.

I now try to lower the level of SLS by alternating my products instead of eliminating it altogether.

I agree some don`t lather at all, the Australian botanicals set I bought do not lather, at all. Usually with sls free you apply then rinse about 1/3 out then apply again. Some brands though lather heaps! My Redken blonde idol lathers well, as does my Nak blonde duo.

Sukin is an organic Australian owned and made brand that contains no sulfates. They also have hair care products as well as skin care. I have switched most of my products for sukin as I was introduced to it early this year and am loving the brand because I know its good for my skin and the environment.

    • 7 yrs, 10 mths ago

actually i like the price best, it is reasonable enough compared to other brands like Korra or Natio

  • 7 yrs, 10 mths ago

it is old news but unfortunately true, however in Australia there are many sulphate free brands that are affordable and good for the environment, thanks to technology and support.
Sukin is a brand that I am using now, the whole range is SLS free and my little kid is happy with it.

If it is for hair care then this thread should help http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/forums/help-ive-got-a-beauty-dilemma/sulphate-free-shampoosconditioners-pinksugar-im-looking-at-you?page=2#comment-2657946

As for body care I’d be interested to read others suggestions too because there is a lot of negative stuff written about it. I know for me it causes itchiness to skin and scalp. I’ve noticed my hair is better since switching to sulphate free, it’s less coarse, dry and frizzy.
