One boy, One girl – would you try for a third?

I have a boy and a girl. I know that most people say it is the ideal to have a boy and a girl, but as I dont have a sister and have always wanted one, I can’t help but think that I should try for one more, so that at least one of my children will have the same gender sibling. Hubby only wants two children and is happy with a boy and a girl.

What have others experienced, or think?

BO i’m so happy for you. Little boys are just beautiful, i love my little mummies boy, my 2nd is on the 9th march (have to have c-section blah!) we were thinking Saumuel, Austin or Miles. Well i like Miles but hubby doesn’t. We both agree on Austin but we’re going to wait to see what he looks like. Little man has already named him Austin so we’ll navigate that later if we have to.

You know what drives me nuts. Is when people ask if you know what you’re having and i say ‘yes, a boy’ and they look at me really sympathetically and say ” oh well you can always go for a third for a girl” WTF!
that irritates the hell out of me. firstly if i had 5 children and they were all boys, i’d be soooo happy, i love my boys, second – what about letting this little baby that took us a really long time to finally conceive be born before we right him off so we can ‘try for a girl’. ggrrrr.
we’ve talked about having 3 children but as you mentioned BO the deciding factor for us would be financial unfortunately.

Again though, i am so so happy for you.

Thanx Princess. I’m so excited for you!! Not long to go now!! I love all three names you have chosen. I totally agree about what you’re saying about when people know you’re having two of the same sex and they feel sympathetic. It’s a blessing to have a healthy child regardless of the sex and like you said princess it’s not easy to conceive and unfortunately some people cannot conceive a child at all. It took me almost a year to fall pregnant with my first. At one stage I didn’t think I’d ever become a parent at all and second time round it wasn’t as long to conceive but I was preparing myself of the possibility of a long time or maybe not at all. Girl or boy it’s lovely to have another sibling for your child to grow up with.

My mum wanted another child, and instead she had triplets! Thats the story of my sister my brother and I, so u never no u could get more than you wanted! hahaha (:

LOL sure of it, hehe. I hear you BO, having a pigeon pair as they are called is quite a blessing and definitely the calling for me to pull up, haha. I was lucky with my second labour because it was super fast, but 100 x more painful than the first, lol. I had enough of a hard time giving enough attention to the both of my kids, especially when the second was a newborn, so for me that and of course the expense involved would be why I am perfectly happy with two. Bringing another child into our family would be just too hard for everyone and I would hate to struggle when it is already tough as it is. Hope the gorgeous Sam is doing really well and you are getting a bit of shut eye occasionally, lol. Hopefully big sis Reina will get use to him soon enough and all the jealousy issues will settle down, it is only natural, especially after being use to having you all to herself for the last 4 years, I am sure she will make an awesome big sis 🙂 Take care darl 🙂

    thanx mel x

I really like just having his name as Sam. Leaves no confusion. A good friend of mine has named her son Samuel and gets annoyed whenever anyone calls him Sam or Sammy…but thats all he is going to get called at school so I don’t know how they will stop him from getting nicknames.

In saying that, I names my son Isaac with the plan on calling him Zac when he’s good and saving Isaac as his naughty, listen to me I’m being serious name. But now I can’t see him and a Zac at all. Maybe an Ike. I guess it will really be up to his mates what he gets called!!

Love the name Isaac and Zac. I love names you can shorten. Some people can get funny when their kids names are shortened or mis-pronounced.

Childbirth is surprisingly difficult isn’t!! I suppose I shouldn’t say surprisingly but I always thought that a million people do it a day, and a good chunk of those would do it at home/in their village without medical intervention, so it really couldn’t be that hard…but I was wrong!! Though give yourself a week and all the hormones would have well and truely kicked in and given you that wonderful post birth amnesia that tricks you into doing it again!!

He was quite long, wasn’t he. But a nice average size. Is his name Sam or Samuel and you call him Sam?

You’re right BS. I said never again after having my first. I thought I’d never endure that kind of pain again but I happily did. The end result is truely a blessing. Bubs name is just Sam. We were thinking of Samuel but settled for something simple.
