I use the Ouch brand (spray type). It seems to work pretty well, although the smell is awful (I think I’d prefer the smell of deet to citronella :()

I found the Ouch brand, but only the relief spray not the repellent. I ended up buying the Ego Moov repellent gel. Although it’s called a gel, it’s quite oily….

I applied them on my arms, happy that I had no allergic reaction in the last 2 hours.

In terms of natural repellent, when you can’t smell it, does that mean it stops working? The smell disappeared after about 30 mins, but the tube says effective for 3 hours

Jatz the midgies are pretty awful up here in Darwin too. But they aren’t as bad here as they were when we lived in Mackay. OMG they were shocking! Hubby and I both looked like we had chicken pox. We tried all sorts of outdoor candles and repellants, but it got to the stage where we didn’t want to sit outside at night. I really loved living in Mackay, but I certainly don’t miss those midgies.

As someone that has had Ross River, I am terrified of Mozzies. They seem to love me. Living in Brisbane mozzies breed like rabbits up here, as do MIDGIES (they are just as bad). Always interested in trying anything that keeps them well away from me.
Will have to check that one out Rose.

Mozzies love to bite me, but I have never found anything as effective as deet. I know it’s not the best for you so I only use it when I travel to high risk areas with nasty stuff like malaria. In those places I wouldn’t risk it.

I mix a few drops of Lavender Oil to some coconut oil and apply to exposed areas of the skin, this keeps the little buggers away and when i am away camping i take my Neem Oil also and rub onto my skin this also keeps them away.

I recently got my hands on Ouch Herbal Insect Sprays. I’ve used the relief spray more than the repellent (because I keep forgetting), but my family really like it. They both have a nice herby smell and the relief spray is the best I’ve ever used. I don’t feel like scratching at all after using it.

Interested to hear what others have tried.

This is what I use. I buy it from various markets in Darwin, but you can also buy it online from their website…..

It smells gorgeous, and it seems to work really well. I’ve bought some to give to family in Melbourne, and they all love it too. I stumbled across it while wandering around Mindil Markets. The mozzies are really bad up here. I detest smelly horrible chemical insect repellants.
I am in no way affiliated with this mob, I just love their product.
