how old before kids have night mares?

From the age of about 2 children can have night terrors where they wake up screaming but they do grow out of it. I think my little boy had his first one last night.

my son started having nightmares at about 18mths. I`ve read its because they start understanding things like fear that this happens. I would have the lamp on and just attend to them as quickly as possible and maybe talk about it in the morning so that they understand what is happening to them.

i dont know about this one cause my 21 mth old jumps and sometimes wakes screaming

I have just found out that to much sweet food (ie birthday cake and sweet drinks) can cause nightmares as welll.

i guess they can have nightmares anytime as long as they have developed phobias and fears and have an active enough imagination. Bear in mind that chocolate has been proven to cause nightmares in some children so best left off the menu after midday.

It helps heaps it`s good to know these kinds of things in advance before they do happen so you can have a bit of an insight on how to handle the situation. 🙂
