How far do you go when you choose what to eat
So many people have different views on being pregnant and what you can and cant eat. One of my greatest fears about having a baby is the limit of food that you can eat.
A nice friend of mine said that you can eat anything if you are sensible about what you eat (if you wouldnt eat it before you were pregnant dont eat it now)...
So what I want to know is ladies what would or wouldnt you eat when you were pregnant?

Im stuck buying this product literally. I used it when my children were babies and now there a bit older and understand they no bath, cream, then bed. No cream = no bed for 3 very angry toddlers.

Ariana, it's entirely up to you. what is recommended is that you don't eat foods that are commonly known to cause food poisoning such as undercooked eggs, soft cheeses, seafood etc.
I was pretty lucky as my body decided it didn't want any of the 'no no' foods when i was pregnant. I think if you abide by the anything in moderation principal you should usually be right. I've got friends that craved soft cheese etc and went nutso on it when pregnant.
I pretty much listened to what people had to say about what I should and shouldnt eat and threw it right out the window! hahaha I ate soft cheese, sushi with raw seafood (though I went to a place that makes it fresh on the spot for every order), and processed meats like ham and so on and so forth. It what I craved! I guess people should eat what feels comfortable and keep it within limitations, dont go overboard.
ya i was the same i didnt listen to any of it!! and i had a perfectly healthy lil bub so unless you usually have to watch your foods or have allergies yourself i wouldnt worry to much
I am not a good one to offer any advise as I just ate whatever I would normally eat, lol, I am sure I ate things that are meant to be no-no without even realising you are not supposed to eat it. Anyway regardless of what I put in my mouth my children turned out perfect and my pregnancies were really smooth sailing too. It's really just up to you, no need to panic if you've eaten the wrong thinig, not really worth the worry unless you have a really poor diet :)
I did avoid the foods that the doctor recommended to be safe. As princess mentioned those are the types of foods that are commonly known to cause food poisoning. When eating out or ordering takeaway just be careful the types of food you eat and make sure the food you eat is fresh.
Yeh I agree with BO about the takeaway foods, If I did get takeaway I would order something that had to be made fresh...not sitting there for god knows how many hours. Same with deli meats, I always got them to cut it fresh for me....I did that before I was pregnant so it lasts longer. My doctor told me to be sensible...but she said that it was 1:65,000 to get food poisoning in SA.
I didn't eat any of the foods that could contain listeria- better safe than sorry I think. :-) It's only for a little while so it's not that hard really. I did miss salads when eating out though.
I have heard a lot of friends say that stayed away from soft cheeses while pregnant.
I have heard to stay away from things cooked with egg whites such as pavlova and merangue
I'm not pregnant yet its more of a question for when I am - as I had a friend come over the other day and the only thing I knew she could eat was spaghetti bog freshly cooked and she wanted cheese cake but we werent too sure what type of cheese cake she was able to eat...
For me its something Im very curious about as I am thinking of having kids in a couple of years but i like to research things before I do them so I probably will have alot more baby questions for you guys coming up too!
I find it fascinating that some people have certain things that you REALLY should stay away from while others say its OK...

Cheesecake, mmm I don't think I went without it, lol, but I didn't even realise that I couldn't eat it. Someone would have to lock me up to stop me eating cheesecake, he he.
@melmeko I think it depends on what types of cheese cakes it is... Something about raw eggs or something is in one of the cheesecakes that you cant have
But like many people have mentioned the foods that you HAVE to be wary of and stay away are the ones that are more likely to cause food poisoning...
To add to this comment my adorable husband was laying on my belly the other night and looked up at me and said "I cant wait till we have a baby" - I told him he will have to wait to have a baby - Too cute!

Two pregnancies and two healthy babies... and my only advice is don't get too hung about what you can and can't eat, just make sure the quality is superb. However, I DIDN'T eat Sushi, raw fish, or raw eggs ... but I did eat good quality cheeses and heaps of FRESH ingredients.
ya i wasnt really to fussed but to be honest im not a huge fan of sushi and creamed cheese, i also find that u will crave wat ur bady needs so u may as well give in...obviously just be sensible about it!!
I agree as long as you have fresh ingredients I'm sure you will be ok.
now if you went out for dinner - and you were a bit unsure of how fresh their ingredients are would it be impolite to ask? As I know alot of places buy their stock in bulk - but is it on a regular basis?

Ariana, I totally agree with melmeko, just ask if you want to. It is best to avoid salads, as they have often been sitting around for a while. Also, you don't know how well they have been washed. Don't eat anything from bain maries either, have the food prepared freshly for you on the spot. :-)
how did everyone find it adjusting to changing foods and the different things that they had to eat and the different foods that they craved... did anyone have any unusal cravings??
I found since having kids I have a terrible sweet tooth which I never had before, lol.
hmmm i always had a sweet tooth, but even more so now!! Like today...all i want is chocolate!! Curly wurlys to be specific lol I did force myself to have a fruit salad too though lol
