I know this topic is a bit old but in case anyone is reading it for tips… Get grow suits with zips or things that are really easy to slip on and off. The last thing you want in the middle of the night (for the 4th, 5th, 6th time…) Is to have 10 or so press studs to do up!

I am a midwife, mother and grandma….:) All I can advise is if your bub is going to be around 4kgs only buy a few size 0000, your bub will grow out of them so quickly. Grow suits are wonderful, probably buy 6 size 000 and same for singlets. They are very easy to wash, and believe me you will change your bub frequently. Plenty of wraps, make sure they are big…the small ones are such a waste. You will be gifted plenty of gorgeous outfits to dress your bub in, so I would suggest only buying one outfit to take your baby home from hospital in. For your hospital bag, if your are giving birth in a private hospital then you will be able to stay longer, pack clothes for yourself for about 5 days (easy wearing day clothes, bub can wear hospital clothes unless you want to dress your baby in your own clothes but then you have to wash them 🙁 ) ……..if you are birthing in a public hospital your stay for a natural birth will usually be only 1 night stay, so don’t pack too much…for a caesarean birth you will have 2 nights stay, same again…don’t worry about packing baby clothes unless you want too but a wrap is always a good idea. Bring plenty of large sanitary pads…you will go through heaps!!! Also if you are planning on breast feeding bring some lansinoh cream, this will be your lifesaver! I know many people bring food snacks for labour, your body is working hard to birth and won’t digest food well…keep the snacks for your partner 🙂 Most importantly……….bring a good camera and a phone charger, all the best with your birth

There are many online store available for buying baby wraps. But I love fertile mind. It is a good store for purchasing hug a bub wrap.

I wisened up a little with my second child, and only brought one change of baby clothes to the hospital for bub to go home in. Who really wants a weeks worth of washing when they just get home from hospital!

The hospital provides baby clothes AND they do the washing for you. I went Private, so I made sure I got my money’s worth ;D

I found this website is fairly helpful to get ideas for any little details that might be missed. You can purchase ‘bundles’ from them, but I printed out a few lists to remind me:-

    http://bundlebags.com.au/checklist/

I did have a giggle at the ‘bag for Dad’. My hubby is banned from any camera, he can’t snack if I can’t, and he won’t have time to read ;D LOL!

Basics that you will need , singlets, wondersuit/jumpsuit/ all in one try and find the one that has the little folded cuffs that can fold over their hands like mittens (bonds did have some) these ones are great as they help stop the baby from scratching their little faces while asleep, sleeping bag (is great when they’re moving around more at night when its cold. Cotton/flannel baby wraps, bonnet/soft cap for outdoors in winter.
My rule of thumb guide to how many singlets you would need (7) you could mix the sizes up and then a 3-4 extras for those times there might be accident (vomit, soiled nappy that leaks)
Two sets of cot sheets, blanket, quilt. The singlets are based on their weights normally so depending on your babies weight you’d get the one that is slightly larger so he/she can grow into them. Goodluck!

Take a few of both 0000 and 000 in your hospital bag – then once you’re home, LOTS of jumpsuits and LOTS of singlets for regular changes.

    And congratulations!

    Hi Gemstar 😀

I’d go for singlets and jumpsuits/growsuits. Unless you have a chucky baby (mine were 🙁 ), you won’t need too many outfits at first. They also grow so fast. Mine were in 0000’s for one week, then 000’s for perhaps 3 months?

I am due in September, and will probably get 8-10 000 size singlets, maybe 6 growsuits/jumpsuits and whatever I want them in at night. Plus a few cute outfits when I want to take them out somewhere.

When they hit 00 and 0, they *can* last a little longer in those sizes, depending on how quickly they grow. However, chubby bubbies may outgrow 00 sizes as well 😀 But they are OH so cute with *nearly* chompable legs ;D

Good luck with your little one, Gemstar! I wish you all the very best!!

Thank u! How about my hospital bag?
