HEARTBURN

I am 17 weeks pregnant and am already having some really bad heartburn.
Some people have suggested Quick-Eze and Rennies, but the thought of eating them makes me feel sick and I think I’d just throw them up.
Any suggestions on what I can eat? I try to steer clear of acidic foods.

Thanks ladies xx

Having heartburn is natural in pregnancy. Not to worry, take lots of water, eat healthy and foods , which are easy to digest. Always do some good activities while you are in bed also. Read books and also think about your baby, who is within you.

I had really bad heartburn too and it didn’t matter what I ate. I would have porridge for breakfast and still have heartburn so I kind of just went screw it, I’ll eat what I want. I didn’t take anything because I didn’t want to risk it but Ginger tea definitely does help, especially if you make it yourself with real ginger. I’ve tried Twinings Lemon and Ginger tea and other ‘pregnancy teas’ that’s supposed to help with heartburn but they didn’t work.

Another thing that has helped me is taking probiotics.

I can’t eat too much carby food or my heartburn/reflux gets crazy. Even when I was just 6 weeks, my stomach has been playing up non stop. Some days though, it doesn’t matter what I eat, I will still suffer from indigestion and heartburn.

The only thing I found helping was mylanta or going for long walks to help metabolise the food better.

ironically lemon juice works for me. Lemon is acidic but it becomes alkaline when metabolised. It doesn’t always work as my heartburn is bad. Probiotics like Mathia suggested in yogurt/kombucha helps. Warm organic Soy milk always works for me too. Apple Cider vinegar with each meal.

Good diet as well. Nothing deep fried. No fizzy drinks. Plain, boiled, steamed food is best. Boring but it works.

Been sufferring heartburn for over 30 years now. It’s genetic. In a way, i am blessed as i have been training myself how to eat for my condition all my life.

I had heartburn with both of mine. Someone recommended Fruit Tingle lollies to me (the ones that kind of fizz in your mouth). Something to do with the bicarbonate in them. It works! And it’s a good excuse to eat lollies 🙂

Lots of moms find that eating a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt after a meal, or whenever they’re uncomfortable, helps reduce the burning feeling.
If yogurt isn’t your thing, some women swear by milk or ice cream.

I’m currently 32 weeks with my first, so prior to being pregnant I hadn’t the slightest idea what indigestion/heartburn/acid reflux felt like.
But oh boy do I know now

Early on I’d get it every now and then and it wasn’t too bad, pretty manageable.
But lately as bubs grows it’s getting worse and worse
I havn’t heard that Quick-Eze is bad for you during pregnancy. At first I wasn’t too chuffed with the taste either but I’ve grown to actually enjoy it (the mint tablet-y ones)
I made sure to read the packet the first time I bought them, and it specifies on the back not to have more than a packet in 24 hours during pregnancy. (You’d need pretty bad indigestion to do that anyway, they work a treat)
If home remedies are working okay for you then continue what you’re doing, but if you find that it’s getting a little out of hand a Quick-Eze or something equivalent every now and then shouldn’t do any harm to you or your growing bubs.
All the best for you and your pregnancy!

(also I’ve noticed half a packet of double choc chip cookies before bed do not help my case, so worth it though haha)

No, I’m still not taking anything from a doctor. I have just been waking up at ungodly hours of the morning, warming up milk in the microwave & adding chocolate powder…. actually, maybe this is preparing me for my baby, minus adding the chocolate powder hahaha.
