Giving up dummies to the Easter Bunny

Hey BH Mummies!

How was everyone’s Easter? I had such a wonderful time, Missy Moo is almost 2 and a half so she had a much better understanding as to what the whole Easter Bunny and eggs was all about. We decided this Easter was the perfect opportunity to say bye-bye to the dummy, they had a good time together but it was time to end it.

So we set up all Miss 2’s dummies (she only ever had one at a time but there was 4 in total, for back up, kids are so good at hiding things!)
and left a note for the “Easter Bunny” saying that she was leaving the dummies for all the little babies who needed them more than she did. She handled it quite well actually.
I was nervous because a few people said we’d be in for a few rough nights but that night (Easter Saturday), she slept right through!)

We sprinkled flour all through the house leading to where she left her dummies and made footprints in the flour and in the morning, she was so excited and happy to see the footprints and that the Easter Bunny had left her chocolate in exchange for the dummies hehe.

It is now almost a week later and I am so glad we did it! She has asked for it a few times but forgotten about it quickly.

How did you get rid of your child/ren’s dummy?

It was so simple, my partner just made little patches of flour around the place and used his finger to draw 3 little circles and 1 big one =)
I was actually nervous that she was going to wake up, seeing as it was her first night without the dummy, and see the foot prints and chocolate but she did so well.
She was also very excited to tell all out family on Easter Sunday that the Easter Bunny ate the carrot she left out for him hehe

My friend did the same thing with her son too, but unfortunately hasn’t had the same luck as you, her little man keeps waking up in the night now.. I will be doing a similar thing with my son this Christmas, where Santa will be taking them to all the new babies. I knew he wouldn’t be ready at Easter so that’s why I will air to Christmas..
Congrats though and what a big girl 🙂
I love the bunny prints in the flour too, very creative!!

That was such a brilliant idea, and it’s so adorable! However did you manage the footprints? I can just imagine you guys hoping she didn’t wake during the night and catch you lol.

My kids never had a dummy (neither of them wanted it), but I had one lying around from when my son was a baby and was desperately trying to soothe him and my daughter sticks it in her mouth at the age of 5 and pretends to be a baby! I think we have oral issues in my family…..

I was told that 3 is a good age but it was just getting to the point that she wanted it all the time and so we put our foot down and said it was time to do it!

Good luck with getting rid of your son’s dummies Mandy, I have even heard that people take their little ones for a walk and “lose” the dummy on the walk, maybe that will work?

    I love this idea!
M boy is 2 next month and I know ill have a VERY hard time taking his dummies off him.He loves them.Im waiting till hes able to understand me a bit more so I can tell him the dummies are needed forother babies(as he has such a soft spot for babies smaller than him).I really dont know what else to do as Ive tried taking them away before and he just cries ALL night! He does not let up at all.
Glad this worked for you, such a great idea:)Love the bunny prints.

love the bunny paw prints! We did the same when my daughter was younger!

My daughter eventually just gave up her dummy at about the age of 2….. we went down the path of big girl in a big girl bed doesn’t need a dummy. My little one is very head strong so knowing that she was a big girl was all the reinforcement she needed to let the dummy go.

Hope it all works out for you xx
