Eczema from food intolerances?

I need some help. Bubby’s eczema has started to spread over the last 2 days. it is itching him and making him quite out of sorts.
There has been nothing out of the ordinary in his diet except he is having a bit more bread/toast and vegemite, but the eczema started before he ever got that anyway. i really don’t want to go to the gp as i don’t want him on cortisol creams. I used calendula oil on his cheek which is really bad tonight and it stung him poor little possum.
any ideas on what are the main problem foods that may cause an intolerance?

Oh i have posted this is Health and wellbeing too.

Maybe you could get him allergy tested? That`s what my sister in law did with my nephew, and now that he`s not having the foods he`s allergic to he`s been heaps better.

well, i have put bub on milk now he`s 1 and his eczema has nearly completely gone from his face and slowly clearing from his body. now i`m wondering if it was the formula (red tin and green tin in the Heinze, blue was fine).
took him off bread and it cleared a bit but came back, took him off tomato based foods cleared a bit and came back, so far he`s been on milk about 1 week and it`s gone down further than ever…………………..so confusing.

You can get some gluten free wraps, and also rice noodles are good.

I sometimes do a little plate of lots of little things. Gherkins, cheese, carrot sticks, celery, tomatoes, hummus, fruit, raisins, ham, salami, dried fruits, rice crackers, stuff like that. Smoothies are a good filler too with yoghurt, milk and fruits.

Can he have eggs? How about omlette? Try gluten free bread too. Something ricey? You could make little chick pea patties, chunky soup, dahl, hmm, I`ll add more when I think of them!

I so sympathise with you and my bub was prone to eczema alot when he was under one. I now only use GAIA products and he hardly ever gets any patches. I use the shampoo, body wash and I always moisturise him afterwards. I visited my dermatologist and there is a non-steroid cream that does work called Elidel. It does the trick and leaves me guilt free in the steroid department. Hope this helps!

Some of the formula`s have lactose in them, so if he`s allergic to that it could be a problem. My sister in law uses a Karicare formula that`s lactose free.

I hope it clears up soon!

Wheat and oats both contain gluten, try cutting all wheat products (bread, oats, rye, barley etc) out of his diet for a week and see if it clears up. Just give him baby rice instead – maybe you could give him homemade rice pudding for breaky or something?
