discipline
Does anyone else have trouble disciplining your toddler my toddler does not listen in public. she is not an bad child but juts like to be left on her own to stroll and venture and learn about stuff around her and gets terriboy upset when we try to make her do something else. eg: sit in a trolley when she wants to run in a mall

While they are still a toddler they don't really understand as their little minds are just exploring everything and seeing what everything does. Really all you can do is be pacient and let them explore just make sure they are out of harms way. My son sounds the same as yours, I just let him have a bit of a walk and run around a bit and try to explain that he has to bet back in his pram/trolley and we need to get moving. Try to distract them with some toys or snacks, that works best for me.
And Rjac, as you know, toddlers have a really short attention span, so reprimanding them has to be short and sharp. Big hugs xoxoxoxox
welcome to my world rjac!! My daughter is just about to turn two and everytime we go somewhere she doesn't want to hold my hand and wants to run in the opposite direction. She'll get on the ground also and start kicking and having a tantrum. She also wants me to buy everyone in sight!! I wish the supermarkets and shops could hide toys away from little kids!! She is also very well behaved and I try and tell her when she's not doing something right. I understand know what people mean by the terrible two's!
I here you BO, lol.
What age is she rjac? All you can do is try to calm her down and explain why she needs to sit in the trolley, e.g. for her own safety so she doesnt get hurt, or try to comprimise with her, say she can walk as long as she holds your hand. Im with mel with the distractions, callum loves to eat grapes while he is in the trolley or pieces of cheese. It keeps him quite. He also is very interested in things we are putting in the trolley so he can play with those too. Like he has just learned the difference between hot and cold so he will touch something and tell us its cold or hot or not hot lol.
Hope at least one of these things helps!!!
Yeah Jarvyn likes me to give him some of the smaller stuff so that he can check it out a bit and then put it in the trolley himself, it's hard I know but hopefully for all of our sakes it will only get better xxx
I too am having the same problems with my little boy, especially when we want him to get back in the pram. I just try to be as quick as possible putting him back in, and once we get going he usually gets distracted and stops complaining. I just try to ignore the minute or so of yelling and back arching. :-)
i think they all go through that!! callum does it wen i try to put him in the car seat
I think you're right elainebr18, only a couple of years before he grows out of it I guess lol So far we are ok with getting in to the car seat, but I was horrified to discover that he can get his arms out of the straps. I am making sure they are super tight now, am probably cutting off his circulation or something.
Back arching yes we are talking about the same category of kid here, I sound the same as you Hooha get them in and get moving quickly, lol.
Bring on ther "Thankful Threes!!" The "Thoughtful Threes???" The "Thank God They've Turned Three???" LOL xo
I will take thank god they have turned three, lol, a long way off yet considering he is not quite 2 yet, hopefully he started early he will get onver it early, lol, am I kidding myslef, he he.
thanks for all the usefull trips will surely try them.... thanks again all u yummy mummies.... im not sure about her turning 3 ( shez 2 now) oz my dad says i got out of my terrible twos a year ago.. lol
Mel, you're sooo funny!!! Who are we kidding, eh???
Heehee....Rjac, you're dad is very cheeky for saying that!!! I reckon my dad would've said the same thing!! xoxo
I reckon your dad was right..about all of us!!! do we ever grow out of terrible twos??? I dont think we do!!! Callums got the terrible ones!!! Lock me up before he turns 2!!!
Heehee...I can really understand how some toddlers have to be on a long leash sometimes!! Not that I'm encouraging that!!! But it's definitely understandable!! lol
Gosh, I'm so hearing you ladies. I put my 2 (nearly 3, so I don't think the Thankful Threes are going to apply here, LOL!!) inside the trolley and just have to stack the groceries around him, because he always runs off and does not listen to me. Mind you he doesn't really listen to me at home, either!! He is so different to his 5 year old brother, who I never had a problem with when shopping, even at 2 he'd just stand around quietly waiting for me to finish looking at things. He was such a dream!! Now I try and get the shopping done ASAP!!
Oh poor Scent!! I can just imagine you racing towards that grocery finishing line before Master 2 Year Old even has time to blink!!! lol
hehe fill it with potatoes there heavy so will weigh him down!!
I think tying him down might be my best option, LOL!!
lol they do sell rope in coles right? Lol
Yes, not sure whether they'll look kindly at that, tho, hee, hee!!
sometimes i think they would prefer anything over callum screamin, hes got a fair set of lungs on him!!!
Were do boys get their energy?? At least you've got alil girl to balance it out!!!
Yes elainebr18 mine is not even two yet and he is full on a terrible toddler, lol, I'm sure it will be terrible two's and terrible threes as well at this stage, lol.
mine is 18months and really starting to try it on now but I make deals with him. I have done since he was tiny. I say ' we do this now and we do what ever it is he wants after, THAT'S THE DEAL', he usually goes along with it even if it takes me a minute to win the battle but i always make sure i follow through on his side of the deal. so far so good but i've no doubt it's only gonna get tougher. He is his mother's son afterall.
