We found it so hard to breastfeed

    Shiny babies? WTF?

Yes you are right. Breast feeding is much more helpful for the babies. This helps to grow more. Minimize the risk of being ill and make the baby more shiny and strong.

Whatever you do just get the baby fed, for God’s sake.

My bub is 6 months old and we have used almost every combination possible depending on what works at the time – exclusively formula, exclusively breastfed, breastfed with formula top up, breastfed with expressed breast milk top up, expressed breast milk with formula top up. You name it! She is constantly changing (sometimes prefers bottle and now refuses bottle) and I am constantly changing as well (sometimes have milk and sometimes no milk). She is happy and healthy and this is the only thing I care about. Stuff the breast feeding debate.

I’m a new mum too but what I’ve learnt is FED is best. Not breast not formula.. my little one was given formula once he was born and I had to top him up with formula as my milk hadn’t come in.

Tbh I’m just lazy with keeping up with sterilising and cleaning the bottles! I gave up expressing cos I don’t have time for that lol

I recently found out my bub is allergic to milk protein so I can’t even give him cow’s milk.. he’s stuck with my breast milk for now.

I completely am all for breastfeeding if that’s what’s best for mum and bubba and it works. So much pressure these days from media, other mothers and judgey holier than thous’. Do what’s best for you and your baby I say. But I do agree breast milk is free, natural and has lots of awesome nutrients in it to give bubbas a good start to life.

There is nothing better for human babies than mother milk. Cow milk is for calves.

Yes so much pressure on new mums. Breast feeding is fantastic if it works out well so much to learn for the new mum and new baby to get into good feeding rhythm persistent routines really help and fantastic support from lactation nurses really are so invaluable the best advice i got was to hold your boob like a hamburger to ease into bubs mouth to ensure they get the best chance to latch on properly. I agree cabbage leaves are brilliant to help with sore bleeding nipples ouch. I feel for all the new mums don’t feel guilty if it doesn’t work & u need to go with formula the main think Is bub gets fed and puts on weight

I’ve only just discovered this thread. Great discussion! I have always thought I would bottle feed my bub because I grew up with formula and I just don’t see any issue with bottle feed. So I really do not understand the point of the breastfeed/formula debate.

My bub was exclusively bottle-fed for the first 5 days because my milk did not kick in. But then once my milk kicked in, it was quite easy for both of us – she has a good latch and I have the supply.

However, last night she was very unsettled. She sucked and then twisted her head around (with my nipple in her mouth). I was in so much pain, I screamed, gave her to my husband, went to the kitchen and made up 60mL formula. I gave the bottle to my husband, he fed her and we all went to sleep and happy. So it’s not one way or the other, it can be either or both, just whatever suits the baby and the mum and the circumstance.

Im probably going to get a lot of flak and judgement for this….I breastfed my baby for the first 7 months of his life and I absolutely hated the experience. It was painful, it was awkward, I didn’t like the feeling. He did have a tongue tie and I think that’s what has scarred me for the experience. I never found it comforting. Now I do express milk and give it to him in a bottle and I absolutely LOVE that bond with him.
