Im also indian.. born in india n mom got my ears pierced when i was about 2 years old

i got my ears pierced at around 14 or 15. much to my fathers disgust, as he didn’t want me to get them done. personally I’d prob wait til they ask to have them pierced. i don’t really understand babies and earrings.

It could be a cultural thing- I come from an Indian heritage (but I was born in Fiji) and it’s normal for young girls to have their ears pierced at a young age.

My mum never let any my sister or myself get our ears pierced before we were 10. I remember I was out shopping with my mum about a month before I was 10 and she surprised me and said could get my ears pierced then if I wanted. I just remember the sheer glee I had that day. I didn’t even care about the pain, I was just so happy that I had my ears pierced.

I reckon wait and make an event of it. Getting your ears pierced is insignificant and once you are old enough to actually look after a piercing you are old enough to know whether you want it or not.

I don’t remember much about getting mine done but I was 3 years old and my mum didn’t want me to get it done because she was so scared that it would hurt me too much but because I was very persistent and I wouldn’t stop I got them done at 3. My mum was terrified but she tells me I wasn’t scared at all and I actually laughed when it happened and that I was completely fine. I am very happy that I got them done so young because at that time I didn’t have a phobia of needles like I do now which has stopped me from getting more piercings because I am so terrified of needles. The only time that I wasn’t ok when I had gotten my ears pierced at 3 was when somehow I had knocked my ear and apparently I was in a lot of pain and wanted them out just for that night because of me hitting them and them being freshly pierced.

I get a little scared for very young children that get them done but I understand the mothers reasoning behind it, so for me getting it done at 3 years old was the best. I did get mine done with a gun and I know that is more damaging then a regular needle but I think it’s too terrifying without the gun- for me at least.

I don’t remember when my parents had mine done! Obviously when I was small child. Lol. I asked my mum and she said it was when I was 2 or 3 years old but she looked confused.

I had 2 more (on each ear) done when I was in my teens but I took them out and I ended up only keeping the ones my parents had done.

I think it might be better to get it when the child is young and wont remember it!

I also dont agree with using a sterile needle. It seems barbaric. Thats how my grandma had her ears pierced in the 1940s, not in a modern age. Get them to a chemist people, we are not cavemen.

Oh jesus. I know you posted this ages ago but I just have to comment.

you are SO wrong in your thinking.

going to a chemist to get pierced is a BAD idea.
they use piercing guns which do not get sterilised (wiping with alcohol does NOT sterilise)
    and they are not professionals.

I have some professional piercers as friends one who has had 12 YEARS the other 8 years experience.
they’re not just some random sales assistant at the chemist.
I also do not recommend going to essential beauty. the amount of people I’ve seen with messed up piercings is insane.

and sterilised needles are SO much better, not barbaric at all.
they are incredibly sharp and have a hollow so they actually remove a small piece of skin, which is actually good! piercing guns just ram those blunt studs through which is far more traumatic to the skin..

and studs with butterfly backs really aren’t suitable for healing piercings.
some people experience a lot of swelling and those studs do not allow for this.
and the backs have a flat back and little places blood, crusties and gunk can gather in which is obviously not good when you’re trying to heal a wound.

I totally agree with this! I did a lot of research when I got my ears pierced (again) about 2 years ago and using sterile needles is the best way to go. I’ve had my ears pierced with a gun before and while needles did hurt more, the healing process was so much easier. My piercer used earrings that had a flat back and the front was a silver ball that screwed onto the pole. This gave my ears room to swell and also stopped bacteria clogging up in there (it was a lot easier to clean than butterfly backs). Having a flat back also meant that the earring didn’t poke into me if I slept on my side.

Some really interesting opinions here. I had it done for my 12th birthday so it was something kind of special that I looked forward to. I wasn’t allowed to get my ears pierced any earlier!

I don’t like to see earrings on babies because they are only children for such a short time before they grow up, and I don’t think kids even care about jewellery and appearances. They have their whole lives ahead of them to become interested in jewellery.

    hi,
i have a baby girl myself and i’m waiting for her to get older before i pierce her ear just to be safe, i just don’t want to take the chance of her being in any unwanted pain or discomfort especially since there are other kids around her on a daily basis
