any suggestions on sensitive shampoo for kids

My little boy has been scratching his scalp a lot lately, I think he is sensitive to kids shampoo. At the moment I’m using Palmolive funny honey and Johnson’s blueberry bash. My daughter is fine with it, but he seems to react from it. Any suggestions on sensitive shampoo that wont sting there eyes?

LOL Shooting Star I know how you feel. My son got his first haircut (apart from the fringe that I had already cut myself) just after Christmas. He looks like a real little boy now (although it is really growing back so fast) I even kept his little curls in an envelope they gave me at the hairdressers.

Thanks beauty bee, I will most definitely check out the sight and check for nasties. Well I have cut my sons curly locks of (sob sob) he looked so cute but still looks just as cute with short back and sides and the other thing is hasn`t been scratching with the new instincts shampoo it smells really nice but not over powering and also foams up well to clean his hair. Thanks for all your tips ladies hope everyone has a lovely day today it has def cooled of a bit here which is just as well as were having family over for our early Australia day BBQ. Yippee

The brand is a `No more tears` one, if you know what I mean. I think Rachelk mentioned in an earlier post that her doctor said she would never use this brand. Their wipes also contain alcohol. Makes me wonder what the doctors know that we don`t.

I have included a link to the skin deep website and their breakdown on ingredients. Scroll down and find out what they think of each ingredient. I love the warning they put on the bottles `keep out of reach of children` that sends the alarm bells ringing with me immediately.

The lavender smelling product doesn`t contain lavender just a fragrance that smell like lavender. You would be better off putting a drop or two of lavender essential oil in the bath and saving your hard earned cash.

I know I have put this website on other posts, but it is very useful for determining the toxicity of products and their ingredients.

I`m very interested as well Beauty Bee. I`ve used a few commercial brands on my daughter and her skin didn`t have a good reaction to some of the brands and we`ve had a better response to brands that don`t use certain ingredients. Natural Instincts (as mentioned) is another good brand. I recently put together a hamper for a friend who had a baby and added some of their baby products in the hamper.

When I had my son they told me the same thing about talcum powder. We have actually never used any sort of body wash on him and he is 17 months. We just wash his hair with the natural instinct shampoo and that`s it. I will probably get something for him soon as he gets pretty grubby now but it will definitely be a natural product. I was given lots of products but after I quickly skimmed the ingredients I decided not to use them. I really think the anaesthetic thing takes the cake though.

I am really into ingredients in products and I went into different products when my children were born. Someone I know quite well told me about the nasties in baby shampoo. If this alarms you, you might be surprised that most ingredients in personal care and makeup are never tested for saftey.

When I went into hospital to have my little boy we weren`t allowed talc powder. I know that there are hospitals that discourage certain brands of popular childrens products. The hospital I was in recommended a few drops of good quality olive oil in the water with your baby. This moisturises, cleans and protects their skin and hair and it is also good for massage.

Most bubblebath products contain SLS (sodium laureth sulfate or sodium laurel sulfate) you have probably heard of these they are salt (foaming agent), which can harm childrens eyes and livers.

My little boy is three and all I have ever used on him is Akin bodywash. I use it for bubblebath, shampoo/cond and body wash.

BB, that is terrible! (maybe I can guess which brand). However did you find that information out?

  • 15 yrs, 3 mths ago

What brand is that BB? I cant believe there`s anaesthetic in a baby shampoo!

Shooting star – Alchemy and Akin don`t have a `Baby` range as all of their products are gentle, have no nasties and won`t sting their eyes. There is a brand out there that puts anaesthetic (mild) to stop babies eyes from stinging.

Good luck with Natural Instinct, I look forward to hearing what you thought.

    Cheers
    BB
