some babies need more stimulation than others. usually it turns out it`s because they are smart little cookies and if they tell you it`s ADD when he`s a toddler it`s probably because he is just busy learning, some kids just need to learn.
it is absolutely irresponsible for a daycare person or anyone who is not a qualified practitioner to make any such comments.
there was a great doco on national geographic on mothers day called the science of babies. and yes elainebr18, they get bored very quickly, they can add and subtract, so if you show them one item and they look away, they are bored, if you take the item away then bring it back but show them 2 of the same item, watch their face, they will concentrate and it has their attention because they know it is more or less. smart little monkeys.

I know how your sis feels princess75. My daycare told us my son has ADD tendancies…at 4months!!! The woman reckoned that because he was developing so quickly and got bored so easily he must be ADD!!! Arent all babies bored easily???

Has anyone elae noticed that everyone on heres babies are below average??? Maybe they got there averages wrong!!! My son has a supplemented diet (breast and formul) as I found it hard to express enough to send to day care during work, it does take a lot of work to keep up the milk supply but I think its worth it in the end. But everyones different some peoples bodys just decide that bubs had enough.

people just love to freak us mums out for a good time i think.
my sister was recently told by a woman that works for a child care agency that her oldest boy has autistic tendancies because he is so smart and well co-ordinated and speaks so well for a 3 year old.
maybe he`s like that because his best friend is an adult (ie his mum) he spends 98% of his time with her and she really concentrates on teaching him. that woman nearly copped a visit from a very protective aunty when we were down there. boy oh boy it drives me nuts.

Yeah, don`t freak out, there`s lots of reasons she could be little. I was told my daughters head was too small and had to keep coming in to get it measured – but then the nurse said `well you have a small head too, so it`s probably hereditary` I was like `thanks`…not.

check with your doc or pead.tr. carmsy but don`t freak out. if she is getting enough food she`s probably just a little baby.
my boy is in the 95th percentile for height and the 25th for weight. now i`m pretty certain all you ladies that have seen the pics of him would have to say he doesn`t look under weight at all.
those charts are 50million years old as well, they are terribly outdated. if she is developing and responsive and eating well then she`s probably fine.
my baby health lady told me he was underweight at 4.5 months so i told her what i was feeding him (he started solids early) and she nearly fell off her chair then very quickly determined he`s just a tall skinny kid like his dad.
one last thing, try not to compare her to your son. all babies are completely different. lol:)

It sounds a bit small but if she is healthy and developping well with shiny eyes etc I wouldn`t panic too much. My baby was a little underweight at 6 months but once he staerted having solids he`s put on more weight. I also started supplementing with formula feeds before then but I think thats why my milk ran out a few weeks later so be careful if you want to carry on breastfeeding. Go and see your doctor or child health nurse if you are worried.

Depends on her length too and if you are petite. But you should definitely go see your maternal health nurse. My little girl was just over 7kg at 6 months, which was slightly under average, so 5.5 seem very small. Have you been seeing your maternal health nurse regularly as she would be able to pick up problems early on.

My bub was slightly under average. He was born 3.5kg he is 7mths now and is 8kg. 5.5 sounds quiet low. Is she being breastfed or formula?? If she is on breast you may need to consider adding a few formula feeds to make sure shes getting enough.

Definately check with your Doctor or Midwife. They should have a growth chart with your babies growth since birth and a comparison chart with normal growth for their age.
