Uni Students Unite!!

Hey fellow uni students, I thought I’d finally start a thread where we can just talk about uni or what degrees we’re doing instead of using other threads (Sukin thread I’m looking at you). Feel free to rant about uni/studying or waste time here during the holidays 🙂

To start with I’m an Education student at USYD, specifically English and History secondary teaching. Hehe I feel like this thread is calling all the protesters at my uni.

Hi everyone! 🙂 I got my first preference to study environment at Macq, hooray! Both nervous and excited about starting uni this year.

Congrats! What will you be studying? I go to Macquarie too (second year) so if you need help with anything let me know 🙂

Thank you! I’m thinking of doing a double major, environmental management and I’m not too sure which of the environmental sciences so I think I’ll choose broad units. Though I’m leaning towards climate science atm 🙂

So interesting to see what everyone else is studying.

I just started my first year at UTAS! I’m studying Bachelor of Business via distance. I plan to major in accounting. I choose to only do part time as I have full time employment and actually want to have a life! Lol. It’s so full on at the moment tho, my first subject is mathematics foundation, which I need to do before I can do quantative methods (more poo maths). And they only offer this subject for distance students in summer school! I currently have 3 lectures a week and 1 tutorial with an assignment due each week. It’s killing me!

    Hello fellow students!

I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Education – Early Childhood and I am entering my fourth year in March. I am still not 100% sure if I want to be a teacher or work in the fashion industry but I’m excited to finally finish this degree next year! Anyone else having doubts on whether they picked the right degree? Hopefully next year I will get more experience in schools and I can see if teaching is really for me!

I’m the same hun! I’m doing Education Primary/Secondary and I’m not sure it’s what I want to do but I’m sticking it out and will wait and see 🙂

Really? So many people who aren’t keen on education? I love it! I started doing a general arts degree (after a year i could try Psychology), and then I had an epiphany and decided to do Psychology & Education. Really loving Education so far but i’m hating the statistics side of psychology. My goal at the end of everything is to be a school counsellor but i’m keeping my options open (i’m not even sure if i’ll pass this Psych unit).

MissT you have no idea how thrilled it makes me to read that you are loving Education – the system is crying out for gorgeous young ones like you and you’ll have so much to offer. It might now be obvious that I’m a retired teacher who absolutely loved it. There couldn’t be a better profession for anyone who does love children and the work. Keep the School Counsellor idea in your mind and you never know where it might take you.

You’ve made me very happy. With love.

I haven’t had a chance to respond to your kind words until now, Trish. Your comment made me very happy too. It’s a career that i’ve always been open to exploring later on (since when I finished school I studied counselling so wanted to follow through with that). I think what always made me want to teach was how much of an impact fantastic teachers made in my life, I still remember most of my teachers and will never forget the ones that helped me through tough times. I’d love to be able to make a similar difference in just one person’s life. I hear that it’s tough but no job is ever easy.

I’m only in my first year of Education and i’ve already learned so much (which is contrary to what many other Education students at other unis have said to me). I’m starting to think that even univeristy teachers make a big difference in your passion for becoming a teacher.

I was really intimidated by Psychology as the course i’m doing is my first one and it’s an introduction to all the psychological theories AND statistics but i’m feeling a bit better about it now that I got my grade for my last assignment back and it was a credit (and they mark really harshly). Now i’m trying to revise for my 3 exams as best as I can. 2 are multiple choice while one is a mix of short essays and short answer responses. Stressful but i’m hopeful that i’ll do well.

Good luck to everyone prepping for exams!

So I am meant to be cramming for my exam tomorrow (drug delivery, forever the bane of my existence) but I decided to come and share my story…on uni. xD
I’m studying a bachelor of pharmacy right now, I’ve got one more year of study left then a whole year of internship before I’m registered. I have found that my course has definitely helped me understand the ingredients in my beauty products a lot better and has made me spend numerous hours hunched over bottles reading the ingredients. My friends thought I was crazy when I pointed out a surface activating agent in a product and started babbling about its exact mechanism and why it was included. Very irrelevant. Ingredients have never looked the same to me ever since.

Good luck with your exams, Obsidian 🙂
nice to meet another pharmacy student, I’m actually doing Master of pharm at the moment!! I’ll also be finishing up at the end of next year so I guess we’ll both be interns in 2015? lol. I totally can relate about understanding ingredients more now, its good to actually know why an ingredient is included in a product. Just this morning we were talking about the different sorts of ingredients in creams and ointments…exactly the kind of thing I like to learn about 😛

HELLO. Yeah we’ll be working ridiculously hard in 2015. D: I found the whole creams/ointments stuff so interesting last semester, pretty sure I aced that section purely because of beauty-related interests. Haha. You don’t have exams at the moment?
