Shrinking black jeans (on purpose)

About two months ago I bought a beautiful pair of black jeans, they fit like a glove and cost me over $180. Since then they have managed to stretch and I have a lot of bagginess around the crutch and thigh area especially.

I know jeans can be shrunk because I’m positive I’ve done it before accidentally. Does anyone know a reliable way to shrink them on purpose? Not dramatically but enough to return them to their former skin tight goodness.

Does anyone have any experience shrinking clothes and could suggest a relable method?

Thanks in advance savvy beauties.

On my washing machine I have a cycle called ‘baby care’ basically it is a really hot wash, about 90 degrees for sanitising baby clothe etc, I don’t have a baby but I do have jeans haha

I wash them twice on the baby aka really hot cycle and lay them flat on a dryer to dry naturally.

They always shrink, you may find them a little tough to wiggle back into at first but then they fit like a glove! I do this with all my jeans

I hope it works for you too, nothing worse than when your favourite jeans go baggy

Haha thanks for the input Katie975 I wish my washing machine had a baby care cycle. That sounds so good.

Thanks for the good advice everyone! I tried the method where you turn your jeans inside out, pour boiling water over the baggy parts. Leave for a few minutes, chuck in a hot water wash, then the drier. They are literally back to perfect and turning them inside out preserves the colour. May not last long before they stretch again but was able to wear them again today for my date. Perfect!

I’ve definitely done it through the drier/hot water method, but it doesn’t last! one wear and you’re back to stretched jeans, and each tinme possibly worse as it’ll fade the colour as well as ultimately stretch the fabric fibres/lengthen them over time – hence baggy.

Def try an alterations place as these are just too expensive (in my eyes anyway) to accidentally ruin?

They may shrink in the hot water and dryer but they may not shrink where you need it. If you love them so much, I suggest get a quote from one of those alteration places.

You could try washing them with warm/hot water and the putting them through the drier. Just be mindful that heat can damage spandex if your jeans are a blend of spandex and cotton. Also wash them inside out to preserve the colour since they’re dark. Results can vary with this method and you can’t really control how much the jeans will shrink, if at all (some jeans are pre-shrunken by the manufacturer).

Have you thought of getting them tailored? It pricier but the results would be more predictable and you’re less likely to ruin your expensive jeans.

    Hopefully this helps!

I never knew washing shrinking black jeans with warm water could help. I had one expensive black jeans that got me so sad because it shrunk. And it`s no longer as black as the original. I still wear it though. Thank you for your advise; it definitely helps!
