please help me find shoes for work?

I’m going to be starting work as a waitress soon and I have only been told to wear plain black leather shoes with no laces, buckles/etc or colour. but no ballet flats so I’m not quite sure what.

because I’ll be on my feet for long hours I want them to be really comfortable and grippy.

I was wondering if anyone has seen any about that may be suitable or has some they would recommend?
thanks…

Before using orthofeet house slippers, my husband’s feet hurt every day when I wore other house slippers for the day. I am impressed with the offer of slippers for my husband who is suddenly experiencing plantar faciitis—with hopes that this investment will be worth it and a big help to him I have been amazed at how I can wear these with no feet pain at the end of my day.

    Thanks Faboosh and Missteaaddict.
I just got home from work tonight and I have been wearing black leather looking sneakers (which was a lazy shoe replacing effort when I got my new job in November) and I must say I really regret buying them. I also bought a pair of Safe-T-Step work shoes at the same time (buy one get the second half price promotion) which are meant to be oil and slip resistant which is great working in a supermarket, but I got the usual size six for my small feet because they fit alright in the shoe shop, but after wearing them at work for one day my feet hurt so much because they were too tight around the top of my foot and the back sits too low.
They might have been alright if I got a size 7, but because I already wore them I didn’t bother taking them back. So it was a waste of $70 on a pair of painful shoes I only wore once… 🙁

So after tonight and coming home with sore feet once again, I really should have a dedicated work shoe shopping day where I will take my time browsing and trying to find the best ones for me rather than doing the usual – get in find a pair and get out. I just dread work shoe shopping!

I was a waitress for 3 years and started off with a pair from target. They lasted about 9 months. Then I thought I would spend a bit more and invest in a pair of Homy Peds from the pharmacy. They cost nearly $130 and lasted 9 months also argggh. Went back to target, got another pair, then after that, payless shoes. Some of mates got blundstone type boots from Kmart/big w/target.

Kamillyon, yep Hush puppies are available at Myer, as well as planet shoes. They usually are displayed close to each other at the ‘comfy shoes’ section. Hush puppies also have their own store at some departments stores/malls. Check http://www.planetshoes.com.au to see the stores near your area.

I thought I’d dig up this thread as I bought some new work shoes today and they are amazing!

So I’m on my feet all day, forever moving around, going up stairs etc. Let’s just say its my version of a gym membership. Anyway my feet have been killing me lately since I’m working more.

So yesterday I walked past Skechers and saw some nice looking but comfy shoes that were on sale (and all black, such a rarity). None in my size but I found some other similar ones there with memory foam. They are definitely not a budget option but they look nice and are sooo comfy. Mine were $100 but they have plenty of others that are suitable as work shoes. So that’s my recommendation for comfy work shoes – now I have happy feet 🙂

Mmmm buying black shoes for work is one of my least favourite things ever!
I usually let them fall apart as much as possible or fix what I can before buying new ones.
But choosing the right ones are important too, especially being a cashier and having to be on your feet all day, anti-fatigue mats help, but a good pair of comfortable shoes are a must!

Hi Kamillyon, I used work as a cashier too a while ago, i had a sore feet because i wore uncomfy shoes. Then, I bought a pair of ‘Planet Shoes’ shoes, they are so comfy and last long!! I could stand all day without any pain. Another comfy shoes that could be worn for work is Hush Puppies (they are a bit pricey, but i guess if you work on your feet everyday, it worth buying them).

    Thanks *Faboosh*!
Do you know where these brands are available?
I recall Hush Puppies being sold at Myer stores, but I’m not sure.
I have hard of Hush Puppies before but I haven’t heard of Planet Shoes or Skechers as other beauties have mentioned.

Big W sell Hush Puppies (I think, or maybe Grosby which are similar) and Skechers have their own stores (online stores like StyleTread may also sell them). I have never heard of Planet Shoes though.

These are rather lame-looking but great for comfort:
