Help! My reed diffuser has ruined my boots.

Hi beauties,
While I was turning the reeds upside down this morning I must have gotten a drop of oil blend on one of my nearly new pale brown leather boots. I didn’t realise until late afternoon when I walked past them and saw a white patch on top right boot. :'(
I got out some brown shoe polish, which turned the patch pink and don’t have any more appropriately coloured polish to try on hand, but I will get some. Anyone else done this and managed to save the boot or shoe? Or are my boots ruined forever?

Well I have dyed them black and I’m very happy with the result. You’d never know they’d ever been beige. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks Sparkle, I have recently been diagnosed with RA, so I’m hoping for remission soon. Fingers crossed.

I hope you get better soon, winter is a terrible time for sickness. Look after your self!

I’ve just had another thought, what about rubbing everything you have used so far off and starting fresh. Dip a cotton bud in vegetable oil and gently dab it on the spot. I did this to a corner of a light brown bag and it worked because the oil stain add colour to the area so the surface looked even. Then try your polish.

You could also try a coloured oil crayon in the closest matching colour.

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I’ve been a bit unwell so I chucked the boots in the cupboard, but taking them to a shoe repairer is on my to-do list this week. I’m expecting that dyeing them black will be the only way to go.

Hi CurlFriday, I always turn my reeds over the kitchen sink that way it can’t do any damage. I did learn this the hard way and spilt it on my dining room table. It removed the varnish back to raw timber as quick as it went on there.

Back to your boots. I have lots of different coloured boots and shoes that I can’t buy the correct coloured polish for so I just use a clear Dubbin and it disappears. I got stuck the other day and used my Neutrogena Norweigen Hand Cream (Fragrance Free ) because I was in a rush and it worked a treat. Fixed my scratch and gave them a terrific shine!

Whoa CurlFriday! I’ve coloured my own boots & shoes before, but that’s always when the original colour was uniform. To cover a stain is a different matter, I’d take RachM’s advice. There are Mister Minit’s at just about every shopping centre. If their quote is too high, the next option is to colour them black – black covers everything. Good luck!

Wow I can’t believe it turned the patch pink! I’ve never heard of this. I would have thought that the oil would just soak into the leather and it would be okay. I wonder what was in the shoe polish that reacted with the oil?! I’d recommend taking them to a professional and seeing what they can do. Hopefully your boots aren’t ruined forever 🙁
