Fake tans

I am 74 years old and have irish complexion – pale with some freckles. Summer is almost here and I plan to wear shorts and dresses in the hot weather. I am size 12 so my figure is ok, but what do I need to do to keep a fake tan if I decide to try one?

I can recommend Dove Summer Glow as well. Make sure you exfoliate and moisturise well the day before you apply it. I use it for a few days in a row to build up a nice natural looking colour. I often receive good comments when I use it, people think I’ve had a spray tan! The only thing I don’t like about it is that is has that slight fake tan smell. It also comes in a range of shades but I know there is one for fair skin.

I just bought the Dove gradual tanner for half price & I haven’t used it yet either. I’ll be trying a small amount on the face. It’s a bummer to know that it doesn’t work as well if you’re not in the sun. I hate the heat & the sun. That’s why I’m as white as a vampire.

Nan Kate: I haven’t noticed you on the forums before, so welcome.

The important thing to do is to exfoliate, because any fake tan collects at the dry areas like knees or heels & it looks uneven. Use a mitt: I always thought tanning mitts were a waste of time until I tried one on sale. The difference is amazing! The tan goes on so quickly & more importantly, it’s perfectly even. When applying by hand, washing my hands afterwards is no drama, but the time it takes me to try to get an even application is ridiculous! & I always found dark spots or missed spots the next day. Moisturise well to extend the length of time the tan lasts. Use a gradual tanner to maintain colour if you like (this is why I bought the Dove gradual tanner).

Hi! When summer comes around, I usually use Dove’s moisturising gradual tanner. It’s called Dove’s Summer Glow Lotion for fair to normal skin. It’s good for your skin, keeping it looking young and not dry.

When using it, it is best to expose to sunlight, or else the effect won’t work as well, as it can rub off on clothing. This gradual tanner is really good, because when you get to the colour you like, you just have to stop applying it.

Warning, streak marks and tan lines are easily seen, so it is important not to apply too much at one time, and to thoroughly cover the tanning area.

And when you have gone as dark as you can go, there is another Summer Glow, for normal to dark.

    Hope this helps! – Madey
