Emergency last minute Christmas ideas (broken thumb needing surgery).

Hi Lovelies,

I broke and dislocated my thumb doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and need emergency surgery before Christmas.

I was going to do my traditional cook up but will obviously be out of action.

Can anyone share any last minute and easy meal ideas?

I’d be incredibly grateful!

xx Lucy

I’m doing some mango chicken lettuce cups for starters. I’m going to buy the roast chook on Christmas eve and marinate the stripped meat in Vietnamese dressing the night before. I’ve tried the turducken from aldi a couple years ago. It was pretty good but fell apart when sliced.

I agree with above comments to delegate as much as possible! Good Luck and happy Christmas.

Not sure if this is up your alley but a barbecue is always good if the weather’s pleasant. Everything tastes great barbecued.

Maybe things that don’t require too much cooking, or are pre-cooked? I am doing minimal cooking and will just be doing prawns, ham, barbecue chooks from the supermarket, pre-mixed salads, and desserts. Too hot in Queensland to be using an oven so I’m pretty much getting things that don’t need any cooking or effort!

I hope your thumb heals quickly, Lucy. It might be time to delegate. Do you have many people to cook for? Might be time to delegate cooking to others. Though, Anne’s grazing table with dishes that don’t need cooking sounds like a great idea.

      16 people all up.

Thinking the grazing table is the way to go.

I’ll put together a pistachio and pomegranate salad and roast a Turducken…

      Such unfortunate timing!

Tis the nature of contact sport though…

      Have a wonderful Christmas!

Oh Lucy, you poor thing. I hope it isn’t too painful. Anne’s suggestion sounds great. Hope you have a lovely Christmas and get fixed up without too much hassle or pain very soon.

      Hi Trish,

I have an appointment with the plastic surgery team on Wednesday.

Apparently surgery has to be done within ten days of the fracture so I’ll most likely go under this week.

The positive side is that the Emergency doctor had no issue with me doing BJJ again despite my cerebral palsy..

      Have a great Christmas!

I’m doing a grazing table instead of cooking…. cheeses, dips, crackers, fruit, roast pork (pre cooked from the local chook shop), sliced and shaved meats, cheesecakes (individual from a local store), prawns….

All finger foods, all don’t need to be cooked.

Omg Anne, your grazing table sounds amazing… Hungry just thinking about it.

      Grazing tables sound wonderful…

      I’ll keep this in mind…

      Have a wonderful Christmas!

You could always roast something? Easier than any other thing as you just pop it in the oven. IF you have someone to help wash it & maybe season if you aren’t able to do it. Apart from that all I can think of is something already precooked like chicken & maybe salad?

Will have hubby on hand so I’ll explore a roast.

I normally do potatoes in duck fat…

      Might buy a turducken.

Enjoy your Christmas and thanks for the tip!
