Earth Day

So today, April 22nd is World Earth Day. This year is actually the first time that i’d heard of such a day. From what i’ve gathered, it’s a day where you’re encouraged to reflect on the environment and the effect that you have on it, both positively and negatively. You’re also encouraged to make a pledge to be more eco-friendly at http://act.earthday.org/

As this year Earth Day falls on Good Friday most shops are closed/haven’t done much to celebrate it but it’s interesting that in America many companies are encourgaing people to be more eco-friendly. E.g. Starbucks and Caribou are offering free coffee for people who bring in their own mugs, Origins is letting you trade your old cleanser for one of theirs (so they can recycle yours), and Ecotools is letting you send in your old cosmetic brushes for a voucher to try an Ecotools brand alternative, just to name a few.

So it got me thinking, what would you like to see companies in Australia do next year to celebrate World Earth Day?

Although this forum was posted 8 years ago, strangely enough, IT IS

    Earth Day today

Missteaaddict’s topic is more important now than when she posted it.

This is a bit late but did anyone else manage to swap their empty bottles for Kiehl’s samples? Took me a little while to sort out as the SA had no idea what I was going on about but finally got it sorted :o)http://little-jo-its-all-about-me.blogspot.com/

so cool….in a way shops in aus being closed is saving the earth anyway!

True, provided they’ve turned off their lights, computers and airconditioning.

I forgot to mention that Kit did the Origins cleanser trade in yesterday to make up for today when they’re closed.

    The packaging is so cute!

Yep, would love to have done the kit trade but no kit near me 🙁 great that they took pert though! Last year a local plant organisation gave out 1 free tree (sappling) to people that were interested in our local mall to encourage people to plant trees.
Would be great if a huge company like mcdonalds could contribute part of their profits that day to environmental causes.
@shuz I like the closed shops= less energy!
