Does Country of Manufacture matter?

Do you look at where a product is manufactured?
Are there any products that you would not use on your skin because of the Country it is manufactured in?

Yes, most definitely. I always try to buy Australian products and avoid any kind of produce that is from Asia.
Basically avoiding anything Chinese, including makeup.
Funny how we’re all on the same page when it comes to avoiding Chinese products haha

Ditto Petal. Invest in a cheap pair of glasses that just enlarge the print or do what I do & keep a magnifying glass handy.
I spoke to an Optometrist about my eyesight and not being to read some labels and she said I don’t need glasses yet, just stand in better light.

I have also become much more vigilant about reading food labels for the country of manufacturing, but it’s tricky for me. I used to have perfect eyesight but a few years ago, I started having difficulty reading the fine print on products, which includes food labels.

Since the frozen berries scandal, I stopped buying frozen berries. I now stock up on Australian berries when they’re on sale and I freeze them. Since the salmonella scare with loose salad leaves, I no longer buy loose spinach leaves, rocket leaves etc. Now I buy whole lettuce such as cos lettuce.

Oh yes, I was just reading about the frozen berries – pretty scarey. Thankfully, I don’t buy them but I do know others that do and they are a bit scared as they have already used them.

ANOTHER frozen berry scare & Sparkle’s nightmare bug infestation from her Aldi bought spice mix has completely freaked me out!

When it comes to food, I’m going to be fussier than ever about reading labels at the supermarket!

FYI misfortune8 and jatz – NZ have a loophole whereby Countries like China are bringing their goods through NZ, repackaging them and labelling them Made in New Zealand and then shipping them to Oz.
Consequently I don`t purchase food made in NZ now.

I received a facebook response from Natio that I thought you may be interested in:

NATIO: Hi Glenda, thanks for your post. Natio is a wholly Australian owned company and whenever possible and the majority of all Natio products are produced in Australia. There are however a few products that cannot be made as successfully in Australia as elsewhere, so if the technical expertise or technology for certain items are not available on our shores, we need to look elsewhere to have them made. You can find the country of manufacture details on the back of the packaging or the ingredient list attached to the Natio display stand in store. This particular product is designed in Australia and produced in China. Natio remains proudly Australian and regardless of origin of production, we always ensure our products live up to Natio’s high standards of quality 🙂

Thanks, cityglenda. My email to Natio was ignored – it won`t change my opinion and Natio is no longer a preferred brand. Thanks for posting this though.

plenty of choices here in terms of beauty stuff and mostly cruelty free.

I’ve always told Mum & my sisters to only buy Décor because it’s MADE in Australia, but the company has just been sold to a South African company!

The only country that is completely off my list is China, as they test products and ingredients on animals as part of their law. No thanks! I prefer Aussie made.
