COVID 19 – has anyone had it or know someone who has?

Thoughts are with those in Victoria affected by the lockdowns at the moment. I have some friends there and are keeping in touch with them to make sure they are ok. I live in Qld where thankfully at the moment there aren’t many cases. Was curious to know if anyone has had COVID 19 or knows anyone who has, how their health has been affected by contracting this.

Someone my mum used to work with & is friends with caught COVID from being on the Ruby Princess last year. She’s still suffering the after-effects of it, like for e.g. losing hair in clumps.

Delta is considered worse than the original variant, so the effects will vary depending on when a person contracted COVID and which variant.

my sister, her hubby and son all had it in the UK. The son (early twenties) wasn’t too sick but my sister and brother-in-law (fifties and fit) were really knocked out by it. They didn’t need to be hospitalised but said it was like really bad flu that confined them to bed for a week apart from toilet breaks! My sister is tough so it must have been bad.

Last year one of my friends contracted in Italy- he ended up quarantining along with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and a few others at Gold Coast University Hospital. These were some of the first cases of COVID in Australia. My friend was separated from his young daughter and wife during that time so it was a relief for him to get back home.

Another friend contracted it on a plane back from Los Angeles but didn’t have any serious symptoms and he was able to complete home quarantine.

Tragically, a close family friend contracted it at a nursing home during the outbreak in Melbourne last year and he died in isolation at Royal Melbourne Hospital.

    It’s an awful disease!

I know someone I work with who had it. We kept her identity a secret but I knew who it was – plus she was ill for weeks and not working so it was a dead giveaway. She was bedridden most of that time and had never been as sick in her life. She is in her mid-20’s and in relatively good health. I am not aware that she has any chronic medical conditions. I have noticed that since getting it she is increasingly tired all the time and she still misses work here and there so I suspect there are long term effects.

No thank goodness. I am in W.A. and it seems the Rabbit Proof Fence is keeping it out. Really it’s our Premier keeping people out that may have Covid. My family have had our two vaccines. Except one child who is under 12.

My friend in the next LGA to me had COVID in August – at that stage she’d had her first shot of the vaccination. She lost 5kg in the first week and was in hospital for 2 nights. She says she’s never felt so sick in all her life and that it’s the tiredness that’s an ongoing problem. Her husband didn’t get it at all.

A friends young son has it at the moment, he is 9 & contracted it at school. He had flu like symptoms for 4 days and now has an asthma type cough. The poor family are now in quarantine & just waiting to find out if they will all end up with it 🙁
