Book review websites?

Hey beauties! I think I remember a few times I’ve seen some of you chatting about sites where they send you books and you write reviews about them on the sites? Or something along those lines? Similar to BH but for books? Can any of you help me out on this one? My mum is very interested in this and I told her I’d look into it for her 🙂

Agreed with posters above, Goodreads is the best platform.

  • Thank you for such a valuable information.

Also if she wants the books sent to her because it’s difficult for her to get out of the house, most libraries have home bound or outreach programs. Volunteers deliver or the library posts books out to those who can’t get to the library.

I think you’re talking about http://netgalley.com/. You register yourself as a book reviewer and then look through the list of galleys offered up and request the ones you want to read.

After you finish reading the book, you just send a review to the publisher.

I haven’t heard of book sites that send out the book to you.

But Goodreads is fantastic for recommending new books based on what you’ve already read and loved. Plus you can link it to Facebook and see what your friends are reading and recommending too.

Library sites are starting to have review systems too, as jodib mentioned. YPRL (Yarra Plenty Regional Library in Victoria) uses a system that is linked to heaps of libraries across the world, so there is already a lot of reviews on books in their collection.

I was a librarian so spent a lot of time looking at all sites book related and loved librarything.com to find new authors that met my moods such as comedic paranormal romance lol or authors that write like… It’s very similar to good reads. Check out your local library website, I built in reviews to our catalogue before I left. Reviewing books is a great way of alerting yourself to what you’ve read too. Let your mother know she can find most of her favourite authors on Facebook, many of them promote other authors that write like themselves. If she wants to read the books for free there’s no better way than joining a library, they will also endevour to purchase any books she requests for the collection if they don’t have it in stock.
