Beware of Scam Calls About Cutting Off Your Internet!

For the last few days, I’ve been getting multiple robocalls claiming to be from Telstra. They’re threatening to cut off my internet within 24 hours due to the NBN rollout. (My internet is not even with Telstra!)

I wasn’t fooled, but some people could fall for it. Be warned – it is a SCAM! If you start getting these calls, don’t give them any personal details, HANG UP!

If you’re in doubt about when the NBN hits your local area, Google “NBN Rollout”.

Having your name on the Do Not Call list clearly doesn’t work as the spammers just have auto dial for random numbers, then you hear a slight click while the operator hears the phone answered and then starts their speil. I immediately state that they are making an illegal call as I am on Do Not call and they will be prosecuted for breaking the law. Generally they just hang up. Other times when they don’t speak immediately I shout IS ANYONE THERE then tell them off again if it is a spammer. The ‘telstra’ internet disconnection team have been operating for a few years now, so persistent, and threatening too. Terrible for those who are actually connected with Telstra as this is the target they are hoping for. Most phone companies also can look up where a call originated from as they now have that technology but the overseas scammers probably have a way around that too. Don’t interact with any of them. Look up the company number and call them back before taking any action, if necessary.

We moved house and got so many unwanted calls that we now are on the Do Not Call list, but somehow we still got them so we now Monitor all our calls and I put a message on the answering machine saying: “Hi you have called us (name) and we monitor all calls now, so please say your name and if we know you we will answer or call back.” and it works. Our friends know to say Hi its so and so and if we are home we pick up the phone ,the others immediately put down the phone or disconnect, even the robotic callers.

A co worker got a txt message from the Clive Palmer party to say if you vote for his party he’ll stop unwanted txt msgs from political parties!

    Now there’s an interesting platform!

I thought it hilarious where he was more concerned how they got his mobile number.

Luckily, I haven’t had any more calls since I began whingeing on this thread – Haha!

The next time they rang, I resolved to wait for the end of the recorded message, then when I had a live operator I was planning to burst into the Monty Python “Spam, Spam, Spam” song. Now that I’ve thought of it, I’m disappointed that I haven’t had the opportunity to DO it!

I’ve been getting the ATO calls with the recorded message. They come through on my mobile. I was getting at least four a day all last week. I’d block the number then they’d call from another number.

Yes, that`s the one I am getting right now.

TBH, I only answer numbers I have saved. Or check when I get a VM.

I do the same now. It`s the first time I`ve gotten a spam call on my mobile, I usually only get them on the home phone.

Those calls in Chinese (?) make me laugh as they go to voicemail.

I work with a few Chinese speaking people but too scared to ask them what it says in case it’s not Chinese.

My daughter said they are something about one of your relatives being in custody or something.

Yep I was getting those before!! November/December I got those ones.

Apparently, they say that a family member is in trouble and needs money urgently…This one has actually sadly been quite successful with people.

But, I actually was meaning the ones saying, “”We are from the ATO…you owe X money”” – those are the ones this week haha.

I haven’t had phone calls but text messages. I don’t understand how they send messages and look and call themselves offical but I always know when its not legit. NEVER click a link. Reputable and professional companies will never send links

I haven’t had any spam calls in a while (I only have a mobile) but the last one I got was so obvious. They told me my phone number was ‘selected at random’ to recieve a half price tablet and wanted me to give then my bank details right then and there.
It’s sad that these sorts of things happen, some people are so trusting and believe it, give the benefit of the doubt and hand over their details to those people =(
