Advice on prize that a major company wont send out

I won a prize from a company (for reviewing my favorite product of theirs) over 3 months ago and I have made several attempts from emailing, Facebook messages and then a phone call to chase up the prize. Back in May I was told they had put an order in for stock which was taking longer than they thought it would. I keep being told it will be sent out shortly. Last time I heard from them was mid June when they said they were in the process of issuing the prizes and the prize will be sent as soon as possible. But I’m still waiting. What makes me annoyed is that it is such a huge beauty company that we all know here and am not sure if I should mention their name. It was a prize of something like 7 products worth a little over $100. Gosh it makes me feel like a real heathen complaining about not receiving a prize.
Does anyone have any advice for a company which wont send out prizes as I’m sure it’s against the law to offer a prize in a competition and then fail to deliver?

    I hope you ended up receiving your prize! I thought Nivea were good with those kinds of things because they always seem to have a giveaway happening or even just trials of some products.
    I’ve received 2 full size products from them to test and they both arrived really quickly

    Hello beauties, thank you for all your very helpful comments on the elusive prize I won and I am happy to report got my prize, Yay. My daughter is just starting to use skincare so she was very excited to see what I got too, she will get to use the face wash and some of the face wipes. There’s moisturizer too although not suitable for my daughter so I’ll be using that.

    Message from NIVEA: we apologise to the winner for the delay in fulfilling her prize. Rest assured, prizes are normally fulfilled immediately allowing 21 days for delivery. We were awaiting an order for one of the products in the prize pack, which has now been received. The prize pack is being mailed today to the winner and we have been messaging via Facebook to confirm status. NIVEA takes pride in showing care through our products, our skin care expertise and our customer service. We slipped up and we apologise.

      Oh thats excellent news.
      I must say that I once had a very minor issue with Nivea and I contacted them for some information and not to make a complaint. They were fantastic and I was stunned to receive a lovely note and parcel of a few Nivea goodies.

    Hopefully you receive your prize now and don’t have to followup again.

    Unfortunately the marketing department that runs competitions in these companies are separate to the customer service division that you would have been calling. And so sometimes you are dealing with people who really don’t know what you’re asking them about and all they can do is pass messages through to who they think can help. Sometimes they start saying stuff to cover not knowing, which only makes it worse.

    If you don’t get your prize pack in the next couple of weeks you should check the competition terms and conditions, which will usually outline how long you might have to wait for your prize. I’ve experienced ‘cash backs’ where the T&C’s gave the company 12 weeks from promotion ending to pay the cash back. I didn’t mind, as I knew what to expect, but it would obviously be concerning if you hadn’t read it. If you need to proceed with the formal complaints process described earlier, those T&C’s will form the structure around your complaint.

    i don’t really know the law around winning and sending prizes, but I guess in the end they are afraid of bad publicity…

    it would look bad on them when people complained that prizes are not honored right?

    The update is they said they had stock issues with one product which had only reached their desk the day before I posted on their facebook site. So they are going to send it out now finally. So now I will play the waiting game with the delivery man.

      Sounds like an excuse rather than a reason to me, lynx, but as long as you actually receive your prize that`s what matters. I`m really pleased you took the steps you did.

        Yes, I was thinking that it was rather convenient and coincidental that this mysterious product they were waiting on for 3 months had just turned up right on queue when I put the message on facebook.
