Hair Loss

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any tips to cope with hair loss?

I’m in my early 20’s and have been losing excessive amounts of hair for the past 2 years or so. I have a healthy diet for the most part, and I’ve been to a GP and Dermatologist, both who did full blood tests that came back normal.

I don’t use heat on my hair often, don’t wear it in tight hair styles and don’t bleach it.

Does anyone have any products or tips that have helped them in a similar situation? Willing to try pretty much anything.

Thanks!

What anti-hair loss products have you tested so far, and which one offered the best results?

Hey MandiiiMoo there is an Aveda trial for thinning hair at the moment . You might want to drop into that forum too.
Also def get your iron levels checked. I know at one point that was a casue of my fatigue, hair loss and other health issues.

I started losing my hair about 6 months ago, a huge clump came out in the shower & I was devastated.
I was incredibly stressed at the time & I was taking the best care of myself.
I was so scared, I didn’t even wash my hair for over a week.
I’ve been using Bondi Boost shampo & conditioner, spray & mask and Nioxin system 6 products.
I also take hair, skin & nail supplements and this has slowed my hair loss down. I still lose a few hairs but since using Bondi & Nioxon I’ve only had two other massive clumps come out in the shower (one time was when I was trying a different hair loss product so that could be why).

I have just started exfoliating my scalp using a brown sugar scrub & that seems to be helping a lot too.

Gosh, hope you feel better after the treatments Mandimoo. I did some research and apparently Aloe Vera is good for cell repairs too so I bought John Plunkett AV spray which is very soothing as well. Be aware it does look like water and was very impressed with the customer service as I thought I was scamed when I bought a bottle and they even gave me one from their warehouse to prove it is genuine AV straight from the plants. Big thanks to them. I will use this for scalp and sun.

Thanks Harmony Queen, I will definitely look into it. I`m staying away from coconut oil but I prefer natural products so Aloe might be just what I need.

Coconut oil is good in moderation Mandi and just used it to cook !

I love using it for my homemade body scrubs and my dog absolutely loves it but I was rinsing out a coconut oil mask the day my hair first started falling out. I`ve been avoiding it ever since.
I visited my Mum last night & my Grandmother was there, she suggested I get my iron levels checked because I have a lot of symptoms of Anemia, with explains why I am always so fatigued.

Yes get a full blood test and doctor will advise you . Hope its sorted Mandi.

OMG, MandiiMoo! I hope it was just stress!

I`m going to see a Dermatologist in a couple of weeks although I`m starting to wonder if it`s hormonal. There isn`t any female hair loss on either side of the family so if it`s not stress, it could be that.

I lose lots of hair but I have lots too. My Mother in Law comments on how much comes out. I think it’s normal to lose up to 100 strands a day.

I bought the Intensive Growth serum from Bondi Boost $29.95 as it has great reviews and someone suggested it here. Anyone else tried it ?
I will try the aloevera gel too…thank you
PS Yes over the years does lead to some hair loss esp with frequent brushing/ washing etc..

I’ve been using fresh aloe vera gel on my scalp as often as possible and it seems to be helping. I have also been trying the rice water rinse (you can find lots of instructions for this on youtube) and I seem to be losing less hair since doing that.
    Good luck

Okay I know this is really random… but my mum had the same thing when I was young, she ended up going to some kind of acupuncturist (he didn’t just do needles, he also had bottles and devices that could detect sensitivities and allergies – I have no idea what any of it really was, I was very young) who ended up telling her to avoid two really random things (beef and pork or something) and lo and behold… as soon as she did, her hair stopped falling out.

I’m so sorry it’s such a vague story, LOL. I grew up in Europe so it’s not like I can tell you where this acupuncturist is to go see him, either. My parents were big into supplementing modern medicine with alternate treatments and I remember going to this acupuncturist a lot, but I haven’t really looked for the same thing here in Australia since I moved here at 24.

So basically with her it did end up being either some kind of food sensitivity or nutrient imbalance, and her not eating those specific things for a year or so permanently fixed the problem, even though she was not allergic to those things.

Maybe if all else fails, re-evaluate your diet just to see if it’s balanced in nutrients and playing around with that for sections of time to see if anything changes?

Beccaduncan23, I remember always having lots of hair fallout in my brushes, even as a teenager. It was only later that I was diagnosed with an autoimmune thyroid condition called Hashimoto’s. I was going to suggest some hair loss products trialled by BH members, but their results have all been very mixed. I think that skincare junkie experienced great results with a hair loss product, but I can’t remember which one.

On a side note, I’ve been wondering for ages if you saw the comments on a thread that you started where you asked about a navy nail polish. You haven’t commented, so I keep wondering if you saw people’s posts:

I wish the forum has a tag function, I have only just seen this now!!

The product I used was HIF Growth Support.

I have written a thorough review on my blog. https://www.stella-lee.com.au/single-post/2018/01/27/Review—Deciems-HIF-Growth-Support

My hair loss was a known condition though (postpartum hair loss – more than 10% women experience hair loss after child birth). So I am not sure how relevant this is for your case. But I know how distressing hair loss can be, so I really hope you would find a solution soon.

I actually suspected I had that after doing some research, but blood tests showed up negative. It`s a good thing I dont have it, but I just wish there was a reason I`m having symptoms!

And no I actually hadn`t seen the replies! Thank you for letting me know, I didn`t get any notifications.

Oh so sorry to hear that! I started to lose a lot of hair after going off the pill after 10 years, so I can imagine how stressful it must be. For the past couple of years I’ve been taking hair supplements with biotin and reduced my hair washing to once a week. I have a little ritual that I do where on my washing day I tip my head upside down and massage in castor oil to the scalp, then massage in either almond or coconut oil at the tips. I use only sulphate/paraben free shampoo and conditioner. I’ll admit it is kinda gross just washing once a week, but as popsicle mentioned, dry shampoo is a godsend! I also use those invisibobles instead of normal hair ties when I’m at the gym and that has helped reduced breakage and fallout. I’m not really sure which one or if it is a combination of those but I feel my hair is getting a little better. I hope you find something that works for you. xx
