5 ways to prepare for the party season
Party season is officially here. Yes, just when you thought it was safe to curl up on the couch and watch the latest season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, your calendar has suddenly become jam-packed with events.
Question is, are you actually ready for the silly season? Have you prepared your body for the onslaught? Probably not, but because we want you to look your beautiful best at each and every outing you attend, we’ve come up with a ripper of a plan to keep you looking – and feeling – sensational from top-to-toe.
5 WAYS TO PREPARE FOR THE PARTY SEASON
#1. Boost your skin’s hydration levels, stat.
Other than a long-haul flight, there’s nothing more dehydrating on your skin than the party season. From too many alcoholic beverages to an abundance of salty, fried food consumed in the wee hours, your skin is often left looking dull and lacklustre come February. Help combat this by upping your skin’s hydration early, so the damage is less prominent. This means drinking at least two litres of water each day, and adding hydration-boosting products to your skin care regime.
Try: glo therapeutics Conditioning Milk Cleanser, Aromatherapy Associates Rose Radiance Skin Serum, and Bellamer Botanical Skin Care Renewing Face and Neck Mask.
#2. Start treating your hair with care.
That doesn’t mean you still can’t mistreat it, though. We highly recommend heat styling in party season. Nothing beats glam waves, after all. But what we are insisting on is this: when you do take to your hair with hot tools, please apply a heat protectant spray beforehand. And whenever you wash your hair during the summer period, switch out your regular conditioner for a damage-correcting mask. Your strands will enjoy the extra moisture, and the ingredients will help minimise any damage caused by heat styling.
Try: Cosmecology HAIR INSTANT REPAIR, and nak heat beat protective sealant.
#3. Exfoliate from top-to-toe each and every week.
Yes, this may sound extreme, but if you want your fake tan to look outstanding, you’ll need to start with a clean slate before each application. If you don’t, your tan won’t last very long, and it’ll also look awfully patchy. Don’t fake tan? Exfoliating or dry body brushing does wonders for your circulation, helping to eliminate toxins from the body. This means you’ll be left with smoother, healthier skin, which you know is a wonderful thing.
Try: TanOrganic Tan-Erase, and Bodyography Oxyplex Body Gloss.
#4. Make sure your feet are looking – and feeling – great.
The party season means party heels. And party heels are strappy and open-toed, which means manky feet are a HUGE no-no. But before you pull out your favourite bottle of nail polish, we suggest preening your feet first. (Winter does have a habit of giving us dry, scaly feet, after all.) If you’re looking for an easy but oh-so effective option, try Scholl Velvet Smooth Express Pedi Electronic Foot File. Its battery-operated file means no elbow grease is required, and you get results fast. (Need proof of its awesomeness? Just read the reviews or watch our video tutorial…) Oh, and because we all cringe whenever we see a lady walking down the street at 2am with her heels in hand, we’re also suggesting you get yourself a pair of these: Scholl Party Feet Invisible Gel Cushions. They’re essential for an evening out, as they’ll not only help prevent high heels ruining your night, but they’ll also help you to carve up the dance floor for hours on end, too.
#5. Prepare healthy meals each day.
The party season doesn’t just take its toll on your looks – it tarnishes your insides, too. Yes, eating badly is practically inevitable, but if you’re organised and eating a plenty of vegetables, fresh fruit, and healthy proteins and carbohydrates most of the time, your body will be more equipped to deal with the onslaught of unhealthy food and drinks. You’ll also recover quicker after a big night, lower our chances of getting sick, and decrease your chances of putting on a few extra kilos. Phew! (If you do need a little extra help, though, Jenny Craig sure knows her stuff!)
