Why you need to wash your feet every night

How many of you thought that standing in the shower and letting the soapy suds drip down from your body and onto your feet was enough to get them squeaky clean? Yeah, me too. But word is that we actually need to put a bit more effort into washing our feet. And nightly, at that.
According to podiatrist Emma Supple from the College of Podiatry in the UK, we should be washing our feet as often as we cleanse our face and remove our make-up. Why? “Dirty feet spark irritation, can cause calluses to form, as well as more serious fungal, bacterial and virus infections.”
Right, I’ll be washing my feet on the regular from now on.
So, if your nightly (or morning) shower won’t cut it, how do you ensure your feet are properly clean?
First, start by washing them with an antibacterial soap and a bristle brush. This will thoroughly clean them, and the exfoliation will help to prevent dry, cracked heels and calluses.

Then, you need to make sure your feet are dry afterwards. Like, reallllly dry. Any excess moisture (especially in between your toes) can increase the chances of getting an infection.
As for extra ways to avoid ending up with nasty foot infections, apply foot cream regularly, let your feet breathe when you sleep (so no socks in bed!), and cut your toenails short.
Do you wash your feet properly? How do you care for your feet?

I especially used to wash my feet when I went night clubbing. Make up off, clean feet.

After reading this article, I will definitely start using a bristle brush on my feet and using an antibacterial soap (makes sense)! I hate the thought of fungus growing on them!

A good reminder to look after our feet, the poor things have to do the hard work of carrying my butt around all day lol

I thought wearing sandals was what gave you cracked feet. I do keep the toe nails short, but I guess I need to exfoliate as I don't do that very often

I always scrub my feet & body all over, I use a body wash that is good for my skin. Palmolive is a great brand & they have all different sorts to choose from. I sometimes get dry feet which is normal I also use a foot buddy that gets rid of my dry skin then I moisture my feet with Garnier body lotion all over. Garnier Body Lotion 400ml you can get in any supermarkets & they have two different types so you can pick the one to your needs.

I have always scrubbed my feet on a daily basis. It is amazing how easy it is to rid yourself of potential calluses when you thoroughly dry your feet as well.

I do wash my feet properly but not every day, more like every second day. I scrub my feet and apply foot cream when I'm not in a rush.

I enjoy a bath every now and then. But yes I tend to neglect my feet!
Thanks to BH the Burts Bee foot cream is great! However the instruction is to wear socks after applying.
