Met Gala 2012: the weird and the wonderful

The movie industry may have the Oscars as its annual extravaganza, but there’s something about the fashion industry’s biggest night, The Met Gala, that brings out more actors, singers, designers, and socialites than you could ever dream of seeing at any one event.

And we have to admit it, The Met Gala may very well be our favourite of all the major red carpet events. Hollywood’s A-listers step out in sometimes weird, always wonderful, and totally amazing dresses that would be entirely too risky for the Oscars, Golden Globes, or Grammys. They get to experiment with radical designs and patterns without risking ending up on the worst dressed list. Barrels of fun for everyone!

So take a look through our celebrity gallery of The Met Gala red carpet arrivals and let us know what you think of these daring and dazzling looks…

Love January’s red carpet look at The Met Gala? Check out her other kooky looks…

What did you think of The Met Gala 2012 red carpet looks?

Camilla Belle

Leighton Meester

Love Leighton’s lashes? The beauty uses none other than CoverGirl LashBlast mascara to get her lashes looking that fabulous.

Jessica Alba

Use bronze, brown and rose gold colours to compliment a sun-kissed complexion.

Christina Ricci

Christina ensured all eyes would be on her with this pink and black Thakoon dress, complete with massive train.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Let’s hope Gwyn doesn’t need to reach up for something or pick something off the floor – we may end up seeing more than we bargained for.

January Jones

Orange and yellow and turquoise? Yep, it can be done, and as January shows, the bright colours look fab together.

Nina Dobrev

The ultimate spring racing style a la Nina. Simply tong your hair and use your fingers to pull your strands into a ‘no-fuss’ knot that looks like it took hours.

Beyonce

We think Blue Ivy needs a little brother or sister to play with, don’t you?

Lana Del Ray

Who knew that the perfect accessories for mirror-ball like dress were a cape, a vampy lip, and some standout red nails?

Sarah Jessica Parker

This floral number could have looked entirely too conservative with its high neck, long sleeves, and floor-skimming length, but SJP somehow makes it work wonderfully.

Diane Kruger

A simple top knot never looked so good. Diane Kruger relaxes the look by letting a few strands hang by her ears and keeping the bun looking soft, not severe.

Leslie Mann

This soft pink ruffled number is beautiful on Lesley’s fair complexion and is the perfect shade to bring out her candy-coloured pout.

Scarlett Johansson

There goes ScarJo again, showing off her beautiful curves in a gorgeous Dolce & Gabba number.

Emma Stone

On a good skin day, stick to just a hint of colour on the cheeks and lip.

Kate Bosworth

Hello tousled and just-the-right-amount-of-messy hair! Copy Kate’s beachy ‘do with KMS California HAIRPLAY Sea Salt Spray.

Carey Mulligan

We love how Carey opted for neutral make-up with this out-there fish-scale dress. Not sure how we feel about her ‘Something About Mary’-esque hair…

Lea Michele

We love Lea’s full-fringe-and-messy-low-bun combo. And did we mention how fabulous those lashes look? Well done, Lea!

Rooney Mara

This slicked-back ‘do coupled with a bright red lip is doing wonders for Rooney’s beautiful blues.

#6: Rihanna

Goodness, another case of terrible regrowth, except this is even worse. Tsk, tsk, RiRi. And maybe you should think about laying off the faux bronzer – you look like you’re suffering from tan-o-rexia here.

Cameron Diaz

Cam showed off some skin in this sexy, backless number. Metallic gold is definitely a shade she should wear more of!
