What to do about: split or cracked acrylic nails

There’s nothing worse than spending the time and money on getting acrylic nails or gel nails only to have one of them split or crack only a few days later. Luckily we have a few nail care tips to help in times of acrylic-nail crisis!

Nail care tips

Taking care of your new acrylic nails or gel nails can help prevent splitting and prolong the length of your nails.

1)    Try to keep your nails dry (what a great excuse to get out of washing dishes!). When you do wash your hands, use antibacterial soap and be sure to wear rubber gloves when doing household chores as this will help protect your nails.
2)    If the acrylic or gel nail has split at the top, cover it with a band-aid until you can get to a nail salon. This will prevent the nail from catching on anything and causing more damage.
3)    If your nail has lifted or split, go back to your nail salon as soon as you can to get it fixed. The sooner you replace the nail, the less chance you have of getting a fungal infection.
