Date night mistakes to avoid

Whether you’re getting ready for a first date, or spending some time with your man of too many years to count, nobody is immune to date night slip-ups. The only difference being that if he’s ‘the one’, you’ll probably laugh about it, but if it’s too early to tell, you may find yourself hiding out in the bathroom until he gets the hint and leaves. So if you’re an over-analysing, accident-prone, stress sweater, just call us Hitch, because we’re about to give you the lowdown on the common dating beauty mistakes AND how to fix them.

#1 You bought a hot new dress to wear, but forgot about your underarm fuzz.

Avoid it: Make waxing your hair removal method of choice – it’ll leave you with completely hair-free, smoother skin for longer. The Veet EasyWax Refill Bikini & Underarm will remove hair as short as two millimetres and the long-lasting results could see you all the way through to dates number two and three.

#2 You greet your date at the door with a flirty smile, then catch sight of your lipstick-smudged teeth in the mirror.

Avoid it: After applying lipstick, pop your finger in your mouth, purse your lips and then pull your finger out. Swiftly clean your finger – taking with it any lipstick that threatened to creep on your teeth. This is one of my favourite tricks!

#3 You want to make a statement with a stunning red lippie, but you’re worried it will ruin your chance of a steamy make-out session.

Avoid it: There are two options. You can swap your lipstick for a stain OR pop a make-up wipe in your handbag and stealthily remove the colour from your lips in the bathroom before things get hot and heavy.

#4 “What if I have bad breath?!”

Avoid it: Before you head out, brush your teeth, rinse with mouthwash and throw some mints in your bag. At dinner, steer clear of anything with garlic and spice. Failing all of this, go to the kitchen and kindly ask for some parsley.

#5 “What if HE has bad breath?”

Avoid it: If offering him a mint or some gum is out of the question, order two mojitos (because it’s your number one cocktail, obvs). The minty drink will help – hopefully.

#6 You’re a nervous sweater and he’s really, REALLY cute.

Avoid it: Wear a breezy top or dress and suggest an outdoor or air-conditioned venue. If it’s winter or just unusually cool, wear dark colours that won’t show sweat marks. And lastly, pop some blotting papers in your purse to take care of that sweaty upper lip.

#7 You removed hair from the downstairs department ‘just in case’, but now your lady bits are covered in a spotty rash. Oh, and they’re itching like crazy.

Avoid it: When removing hair from sensitive areas, be sure to use products formulated specifically for sensitive skin, like Veet Hair Removal Cream for Sensitive Skin. And remember, scratching your crotch is not a good look!

#8 You wanted your tan to scream ‘golden goddess’, but it turned out more like ‘Toddlers and Tiaras’.

Avoid it: Opt for a gradual tanning moisturiser and start applying it in the days leading up to your date.  That way, you’ll be able to control the results.
