UV damage is on the rise

UV damage is on the rise

Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, but disturbingly many Aussies still aren’t using sunscreen properly.

And with approximately two in three of us set to be diagnosed before the age of 70, it’s never been more important to slip slop slap.

Women are the worst culprits, with a whopping 75 per cent either applying SPF ineffectually, or not applying it at all.

That’s why Discount Drug Stores are launching a series of sun and UV awareness clinics in the majority of its 130 pharmacies this month. Running through to March, they’re setting sun-lovers straight by showing them just how little UV exposure it takes to do serious damage.

After a 15-minute consultation with a nurse, you’ll have the chance to get double-exposure camera photos showing the extent of your UV damage and an evaluation of your results, plus important information about the harmful effects of the sun.

You’ll also be taught about ABCDE skin checks (so you can spot the signs of skin damage at home) and the best methods for applying sunscreen.

Personally, I intend to get myself to one of the clinics, ASAP. At $9.95, they’re more than affordable – and  if you spend $20 in store on specially selected sun care products, the fee will be waived.

For more information, check out the website and remember, bookings are essential!
