Treat your feet this winter

There’s nothing more cringe-worthy than putting on a pair of stockings in winter only to have your toenails or cracked heels catching on the fabric. Yep, I just shuddered as I wrote that sentence. Being at the very end of our body, feet often fall to the bottom of our beauty list – and although winter gives us the perfect opportunity to be slack in a fair few beauty departments, it doesn’t mean that we should. In fact, winter can be a great time for trying out new beauty tricks or regimes because if anything goes terribly wrong, it’s easily hidden. It’s also the perfect opportunity to really rejuvenate your skin before it’s on display again come summer. Here are a few quick and easy ways that you can turn your funky feet into fantastic feet this winter…

FOOT CARE TIP #1: Exfoliate

Trading in the sea and surf for socks and slippers can have a significant effect on your feet. Without the natural exfoliant of sand and salt to work away your dead skin cells you may need to try a more hands on approach in winter. Foot scrubs such as Botani Detox Foot Scrub are an easy and effective way to get rid of extra tough skin and often have additional benefits such as removing toxins and fighting fungal infections. Or, if a scrub doesn’t quite cut it, a foot file can grant you even better results. The Bamboo Foot File by Eco Tools has a coarse side to remove hardened dead skin, while the more gentle side smoothes and softens.

FOOT CARE TIP #2: Soak

Warm baths are heavenly in winter, so a specifically designed pedi soak for your feet should make them very happy. OP Therapy Foot Bliss Pedi Soak combines sea salt, mineral salts and essential oils to deodorise, soften and heal the skin on your tired feet. So wrap yourself in a doona, turn the channel on to your favourite TV show, and relax while you treat your feet to their own mini foot spa.

FOOT CARE TIP #3: Trim and tidy

Just because your toenails are constantly covered in socks and shoes throughout winter, doesn’t mean they stop growing. Make sure you keep on top of your trimming to avoid unsightly feet and ingrown nails. Trimming them shorter than usual in winter will also give your nails the opportunity to grow back strong and healthy by the time strappy sandal season comes back around. If you’re not so handy with the nail scissors, filing is also an option.
