Solved: annoying winter skin issues

The good news is this: we’re in our last month of winter. Yep, spring and all its glorious sunshine and warm daylight hours are on their way. Soon. But the bad news is this: winter is still here. And its cold, icy days are refusing ease up, leaving our skin more than a little worse for wear. Not to worry, though – we know exactly how to combat its seriously dehydrating ways…

WINTER SKIN ISSUE: ghostly white skin
We all know baking our bodies under the sun is very bad on a number of levels, but there’s no denying bronzed skin makes pretty much everyone feel healthier, hotter and a whole love more livelier, especially when there are nasty rain clouds brewing outside.

Combat it by… indulging in an all-over application of fake tan. Yep, pop on a delicious smelling faux glow like Naked Tan Instant Self Tan Bronzing Mousse before bed and you’ll wake up feeling slimmer, fresher and downright cheery.

WINTER SKIN ISSUE: crepey eyes
The area around your eyes has very thin, ultra-delicate skin, so when you combine the hot showers inside and the cold, brutal winds outside it’s no wonder your peepers end up looking extra dehydrated and wrinkly during the cooler months.

Combat it by… applying a fine line-fighting, ultra-hydrating eye product like Priori CoffeeBerry Radiance Eye Serum twice a day. This wonderfully nourishing product is not only easily absorbed by the thin skin around your eyes, but the coffeeberry extract and liquorice within the formulation will help to target wrinkles and puffiness, too.

WINTER SKIN ISSUE: dehydrated underarms
They’re never at the top of mind, but our underarms still cop a bit of a beating in winter. Extra hot showers combined with heavy knits and other fabrics can cause irritations, making shaving the absolute pits, which leads to dry, dehydrated, unhappy skin.

Combat it by… using a hydrating deodorant that cares for your skin while protecting you from perspiration and the awful scents that go along with it. We like Dove Invisible Dry Anti White Marks Roll-on, as it contains zero alcohol and boasts one quarter moisturising cream in every product. Plus it won’t leave any annoying marks on your clothes. Got to love that!

WINTER SKIN ISSUE: obvious facial fine lines
When you find yourself sitting in artificially heated rooms all day and walking through gusty cold winds in the evening, your skin is going to find itself stripped of more than a wee bit of moisture. And when your skin is dehydrated, your fine lines become more prominent. Annoying, but unfortunately true.

Combat it by… paying extra attention to your skin care regimen, where you employ products that help to stimulate the skin’s renewal process, while refining your skin’s texture at the same time. For the ladies: try Lancome Visionnaire [LR 2412] Correcting Polishing Cream, which polishes away imperfections to help minimise fine lines and wrinkles and improve the clarity of your skin. For the men: try NIVEA Skin Energy Moisturiser, which contains co-enzyme Q10, guarana, vitamin E and UVA/UVB filters to boost the skins energy and promote healthy looking skin.

WINTER SKIN ISSUE: scaly arms, legs, bum and tum
This one is a no brainer – if you become slack with your body moisturising routine in winter, you will most certainly be rewarded with dry, scaly skin from top to toe. Bummer.

Combat it by… embracing a super-hydrated body lotion that comes in an easy-to-use pump bottle. We love Johnson’s 24 Hour Moisture Body Lotion for this, as it hydrates for hours and hours, and helps to nourish your skin for the long term thanks to its special skin conditioners and oils.

WINTER SKIN ISSUE: a dull complexion
No matter how often you moisturise, you can still be left with dull, lifeless skin during winter. Yep, the combination of moisture stripping air, stodgy foods and less incidental water consumption can give your skin a greyish, dreary tinge.

Combat it by… using a soft-peel mask once a week like the La Prairie Cellular 3 Minute Peel. It claims to reinvent the surface of your skin by shrinking the appearance of pore and improving skin elasticity, leaving you with radiant, youthful, flawless skin. Erm, sign me up. Now!

Has your skin taken a beating this winter? What are you main skin concerns right now? And what are your tricks for combating them?
