Kitchen edition: make your own beauty products

Gone to get ready in the morning only to find that your favourite beauty must-have has reached its last pump? Been putting on that white summery dress and discovered  your legs are looking a little more reptile-like (or flaky) than you remembered? Whether you’re rushed for time or just a little low on cash this month, these DIY recipes are sure to solve your beauty withdrawal woes!

HOW-TO MAKE YOUR OWN: Eyeshadow primer
Don’t suffer any longer from shadow that won’t stay put, keep your eyes looking fab all night long with these three simple steps!
1. Take equal parts oil-free moisturiser (unscented if possible), liquid foundation and creamy concealer. Start with a 10c sized squeeze (blob) of each.
2. Mix all ingredients together until completely combined in a small container of your choosing (this will be your final container so make sure its not too big!)
3. Once mixed, apply as your would any other eyeshadow primer- over the eyelids before applying any eye makeup to ensure a smudge-proof look.

HOW-TO MAKE YOUR OWN: Shaving cream
Tired of hearing your man complaining that he’s out of shaving cream…again? With these bathroom staples create your own lather that wont break your budget!
1.    Combine ½ cup gentle shampoo with 1 ½ cups of conditioner in an old soap pump or another plastic jar or container. Keep in mind plastic may be a good option, rather than glass if you are using it in the bathroom.
2.    Add in five tablespoons of lotion or body butter into your mix and shake the sealed container to combine completely!
3.    Once combined, use as you would any other shaving cream – although it will not foam like others, it will provide you (or your man) with a slick surface and ensure a silky smooth finish!

HOW-TO MAKE YOUR OWN: Sugar body scrub
Skin feeling dry, damaged or downright dull? With this delicious concoction your skin will be smelling and feeling as soft and smooth once again.
1.    Take two cups of raw sugar (brown and white will also work) and place in a bowl with one cup of olive oil or coconut oil. Stir to combine.
2.    Place in an old jar or another air tight container and use as you would any other exfoliant.
3.    Optional Step: You can also take 15 drops of essential oil such as Aromatherapy Associates’ Support Lavender Pure Essential Oil or The Aromatherapy Company Therapy Cocoa Vanilla & Cassia Essential Oil to add a hit of fragrance.
