Pineapples and porcupines

Pineapples and porcupines

Let’s be honest, all of us let our hair down a little in trousers and tights season. But it seems our cousins up in Queensland dodge the razor a little longer than the rest of us. In a recent survey by Schick Intuition Plus, 83 per cent of girls polled in the sunshine state confessed to leaving their legs more than seven days between shaves throughout winter. The prickly phenomenon’s even got a name: Porcupine Syndrome.

But far be it from beautyheaven to judge. I mean, bikini lines in the sunnier states have to be tended throughout a longer than average summer, so the fuzzies deserve a bit of a break. Though we do have to say those with such hirsute pins are flirting with disaster. You know how your mum says you shouldn’t wear dodgy knickers in case you’re hit by a bus? Same principle. The day you let your legs grow visibly furry is inevitably the day you’ll find your jeans didn’t dry on the line and every pair of tights has a hole. Is a few saved minutes in the shower worth the risk?

I find it helps to think of hair removal as part of hair care. I rev up my razor as I wait for my conditioner to kick in, leftovers of which I use as shaving cream when my Terax Complete Shave runs out. It’s part of the beauty ritual: shaving helps exfoliate dead skin cells and silky smooth legs deserve nothing less than a luxurious body cream. Even a blind rush is no excuse with all the clever razors out there – Schick Intuition Plus even has a shea-infused moisture strip that lathers, shaves and moisturises in one move. No excuses – it’s really for your own good. Are you hearing me, Queensland?

PS: This just in from Lauren in QLD: “I’m from Brisbane, so you could also blame it on the drought. We’re on level 5 restrictions so I like to think I’m doing my bit to save water.”  Fair point.
