Practically a film genre of its own, the ‘makeover movie’ has brought us much joy (and our fair share of tears) over the years. Between absolute classics, animations and 90s flicks, here are nine of my absolute favourites:
Katniss Everdeen – The Hunger Games
Our favourite heroine was transformed from a rough, Capitol gal to an absolute glamazon with the help of her trusty stylist, Cinna. Extra props for the cool dress that made her look like she actually caught fire.
Cinderella – Cinderella
I dare you to say you didn’t want to look like Cinderella in all her sooty, pre-pumpkin transformation glory… let alone after it, when her perfect updo and sparkling ball gown sent Prince Charming into a total spin.
Vivian Ward – Pretty Woman
The “big mistake. Huge!” scene has to be one of the most satisfying movie moments of all time. Julia Roberts proved that every girl has class – oh, and she set a new hair standard for brunettes everywhere.
Josie Gellar – Never Been Kissed
We all cried when young Josie got egged by her supposed ‘date’ on the night of her school formal (seriously though, who does that?!). The brave journalist got her back though, putting her ‘Josie Grosie’ days well and truly behind her…
And who could forget this perfect, post-makeover kiss (cue more sniffles)?:
Tai – Clueless
Ok, so Cher and Dionne’s excitement at the prospect of giving Tai a makeover was, well, a tad scary…
To the girls’ credit though, Tai’s dewy make-up look and bouncy curls were a vast improvement. Then it kind of backfired when this happened:
Andy Sachs – The Devil Wears Prada
In another good-girl-gets-makeover-and-goes-bad scenario, Andy went from being a frizzy-haired fashion victim to a sleek, sophisticated beauty queen. Let’s face it though: even when she became super bitchy, we still wanted to look like her:
Allison – The Breakfast Club
The school misfit was barely recognisable after her beauty guru classmate Claire finished with her. The transformation led to this adorable exchange (aww)…
Laney Boggs – She’s All That
While we think girls who wear glasses are beautiful, the dorky Laney loses hers in the process of turning into a bombshell. She then makes this exceptionally grand party entrance:
Gracie Hart – Miss Congeniality
Of course, Sandra Bullock was pretty darn hot to begin with, but in order to go successfully undercover, she had no choice but to become more ladylike. Thankfully, she was still badass:
What other movie makeover scenes do you love?
