Gel manicure removal just got simpler

Gel manicures last for a hella long time (which I love), but the novelty wears thin when it comes time to take it off.

Those wraps soaked in acetone aren’t exactly great for your skin – and there’s something disconcerting about having your fingers wrapped up in tin foil.

Don’t even get me started on why it’s just as bad to pick the polish off (don’t do it, ladies).

But now the removal process is set to get a whole lot simpler. Enter the Steam Off, a new device that’s revolutionising the whole ordeal.

Invented by Hollywood manicurist Katie Cazorla, the mini sauna-like machine doesn’t actually steam your nails; it heats and mists them with a gentle acetone solution.

Speaking to allure.com, the entrepreneur says it’s seriously “easy to use”.

So how does it work? Well, you pour the kit’s vitamin-infused solution into the unit and plug it in. Once it warms up, stick your fingertips into the silicone holds, position your hands “as if you’re holding a tennis ball” then steam for just five minutes for regular nail lacquers and shellac, and ten minutes for soak-off gels and acrylics.

Once the timer sounds, simply remove your hands from the basin and push off the remaining colour with a stick (no intense scraping necessary!).

According to Katie, the machine leaves nails hydrated and smelling great, but the best part? Although it’s currently retailing only in the UK, it’s available for purchase online at everythingnailz.com for US$99. (plus a US$10 shipping fee).

While it’s a little exxy, I think it’s worth the investment.

Still not convinced? The gadget is apparently a hit with celebs, with the inventor claiming manicurists Tom Bachik (who works with Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, and Victoria Beckham) and Pattie Yankee (whose clients include Katy Perry, Pink, and Nicki Minaj) already have one.

I don’t know about you, but The Steam Off is officially at the top of my beauty wish list.

Do you like the sound of the Steam Off? What other beauty inventions do you wish existed?
