Foot scrub 101

So you’ve decided to take the plunge and attack those neglected looking feet of yours, but you’re not really sure where to start. Thankfully, we’re pretty much geeks here at Beauty Heaven when it comes to studying up on all the best tips, tricks and techniques for looking our best. We’re always testing the latest beauty products and pampering techniques  (it’s a hard job, but someone has to do it) and we’ve just finished an arduous course of foot treatment trials (our feet are exhausted from all the pampering!).

We hate to brag, but we’re pretty sure we’ve got it nailed when it comes to all the best foot scrub techniques, so we thought we’d share a little foot love. Here’s how to treat your feet to a scrub-a-dub-dub…

Be prepared
If you’re time-poor, you can skip this step – but if you want really good results, it’s always best to pre-soften your feet in a foot bath. A 20 minute soak in warm water is the ideal foot care fix for dry skin. If you have some milk handy, throwing half a cup into the warm water will help aid the softening process.

Getting started
Unless you’re ambidextrous, it’s best to concentrate on one foot at a time, starting off with your dry spots. The toughest area of our feet is usually the heel, so start by slathering on a generous amount of scrub in this area first.

Working it
To buff away dry, dead skin, the key is to use a moderate – firm amount of pressure working in repetitive circular motions. Be patient, you’ll need to go over tricky areas like the heels and the sides of your feet several times to see results. It’s during this stage that you can add in a pumice stone or foot file if you have any particularly thick, hardened areas of skin that the foot scrub alone can’t budge.

Try this: Eco Tools Bamboo Foot File

Rinse and seal
Rinse your feet off in warm water and seal with a nourishing foot-specific cream. Body and facial moisturisers work in different ways to foot treatment creams and won’t have the same effect. An example of an effective foot treatment cream is Vaseline’s Intensive Rescue Hydrating Foot Cream. For baby soft feet, keep your foot care scrub in the shower, exfoliate one a week and moisturize nightly.
