Foot detoxification

So we’ve all flirted with detoxing after a week of chowing down on Chinese or a weekend of cheese and wine with the girls – but have you ever considered detoxing your feet? While we admit, a foot detox at first sounds laughable, it can actually be more useful than you may think.

Our feet are one of the primary organs used by the body to eliminate toxins. Ever notice when your feet are sore and tired that your whole body aches and you feel generally irritable? Foot detox pads
A foot detox pad is an adhesive patch worn on the soles of the feet during sleep, thought to draw out harmful toxins from the body. Generally containing natural, aromatic ingredients like vinegar and herbs, the foot detox pad turns a dark colour as toxins are removed. As with all alternative therapies, foot detox patches or pads have their opponents. While some users claim increased energy and faster recovery from illness, some researchers have indicated patches may not be effective and the ‘blackening’ effect may be caused by moisture, as opposed to toxin release.

Foot detox spa
A foot detox bath or spa is a type of foot bath that is thought to draw toxins out of the body. Feet are placed in warm, ionised water containing salt and other detoxifying ingredients and left to soak for around thirty minutes. During this time, the water darkens, which is thought to be caused by the release of toxins. A foot detox spa is thought to improve circulation and general wellbeing.

If you’re not sure about the parting with your pennies to try out the foot detox hype, you can sample a foot detox for yourself at home, using a handful of cheap, store-bought ingredients.
